Redundancy and obsessiveness would be my comment on the Yahoo Baseball writers poor vocabulary choices.....for example, they are addicted to the usage of the word "slashed"......
As a writer, myself, i would not be able to live with myself if my vocabulary was so limited...
these writers regularly demonstrate a junior high school level of creativity in their work..
I compiled a list of over 20 words that can be substituted for the word "slash" (or "slashed")
Maybe someone at Yahoo would pass these words over to these "writers", so they don't come off so stupid when they write a baseball article:
SUBSTITUTE WORDS FOR THE WORD "SLASH" ("SLASHED"): SLIT, CUT, WOUNDED,STROKED, SHAVED,CHOPPED, BURIED, HUSTLED, RIPPED, STROKED, TRIMMED, GASHED, SNIPPED, GRAZED, GASHED, NICKED, CARVED, CHISELED, PIERCED, DESTROYED.......
