I’ve used Yahoo Mail for many years, and I want to share specific feedback on the redesign. Several changes in this new (to me) interface have made my daily workflow harder. (New to me because I stayed with Classic view until the option was removed last week.)
Reading space: On a smaller laptop screen, the fixed right-hand panel for starred messages takes up about a quarter of the window and can’t be resized or collapsed. As a result, I can’t read a full message in the main view and have to open it in a separate tab. Starred messages are already available from the left navigation and drop-down filter, so the right panel could be optional or removable. The Classic view was compact and efficient for many of us, and I’d encourage bringing it back or keeping it as an option.
Visual design: The Barney the Dinosaur color theme feels out of place for an email service many of us use for work. A more neutral palette or a choice of themes would help tremendously.
Filters: The “None” option in the filter menu doesn’t seem to do anything. Could you clarify its purpose or remove it?
Trash retention: I used to control how long messages stayed in Trash before they were deleted automatically. I’d like that setting restored. 7 days is not enough.
Sorting: Sorting by sender is no longer available in any folder. It’s useful for managing mail, so I’d ask that it be brought back.
Gamification: The kudos and streak pop-ups that require manual dismissal interrupt the main task of reading email. Giving paying users the ability to configure their own experience would help.
I’d like to keep using Yahoo Mail, as I've had my account for almost 30 years. But these changes are making that harder. If these user experience changes are not addressed, I’ll have to reconsider my Mail Plus subscription. I’d be glad to test future changes if that would help.
