I do not have a cell phone either, yet Yahoo insists that I provide one.

I do not have a cell phone nor do I have an other email account. Why Yahoo cannot do the old fashioned verification with security questions? I used to have an other email but the server shut down. Yahoo won't let me to remove the old email address.
I need to add that Yahoo needs to consider thet not everybody has a cell phone. Please make the "sequrity question" option reinstated. By answering those questions the account holder can be verified just like it was before cellphones were a common thing.
