Hello,
I am writing in regard to Yahoo H2H 5x5 category leagues for the 2026 fantasy baseball season. My friend and I have been co-managing in a team in the Yahoo prize leagues for many years, and have been playing fantasy baseball on Yahoo since the early 2000s. Fantasy baseball is something that we greatly enjoy, and we appreciate Yahoo’s second to none service and support over the years.
That being said, one change we would like to see made going forward is changing the AVG category to OBP (on-base percentage) in public H2H 5x5 category leagues. We believe this change is long overdue. As evidenced by the 2002 Oakland Athletics, the movie Moneyball, as well as countless other modern teams, on base percentage is one of if not the most important qualities of a valuable hitter. We believe that this value should be reflected in fantasy baseball as well. In addition, given the modern game and more reliance on homeruns and high strikeout relief pitchers, on base percentage is a more reliable way to evaluate the true value of hitters across the league.
Rather than having a walk or a hit by pitch be a wasted opportunity for fantasy production, these at bats should now contribute to winning a category. Players like Juan Soto, Aaron Judge, and Kyle Schwarber known for their excellent plate discipline, should be valued accordingly.
Thank you for considering this change and we look forward to your response.
Sincerely,
The Walking L’s
