She also had reportedly attended “countless” drag shows and even publicly said a drag queen friend gave her makeup tips, but then attacked drag queens as part of her campaign.

   “I wouldn’t be shocked if we found out that the real Kari Lake is locked up in a basement somewhere while this MAGA alien pretends to be her,” Noah said, adding:

   “This is a bigger transformation than the drag queens that she suddenly hates. Which, by the way, is particularly ******. It’s already horrible to turn on any friend, but betraying the one who taught you how to get your contouring on point? That is unforgivable!”

    Hundreds of publishing staffers have signed an open letter calling on Penguin Random House to axe Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett’s $2 million book deal because she voted to overturn Roe v. Wade.

    Barrett’s book deal with Sentinel, an imprint of Penguin Random House that focuses on conservative content, was first reported in April 2021. Politico reported at the time that Barrett had a deal for a book about how judges should avoid letting their decisions be impacted by personal feelings.

    In an open letter that had received more than 550 signatures as of Friday afternoon, Barrett’s detractors called the deal “a case where a corporation has privately funded the destruction of human rights with obscene profits.”

    The letter claims its signatories “care deeply about freedom of speech” and “recognize that harm is done to a democracy not only in the form of censorship, but also in the form of assault on inalienable human rights.”

    “As such, we are calling on Penguin Random House to recognize its own history and corporate responsibility commitments by reevaluating its decision to move forward with publishing Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett’s forthcoming book,” the letter said.

    “The ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health that overturned Roe hinged on exactly what Coney Barrett’s book is reportedly about—the judiciary’s role and ‘how judges are not supposed to bring their personal feelings into how they rule,’” the letter said. “Yet, it seems this is exactly what Coney Barrett has done, inflicting her own religious and moral agenda upon all Americans while appropriating the rhetoric of even-handedness—and Penguin Random House has agreed to pay her a sum of $2 million to do it.”

    The letter argues that publishing the book would violate both Penguin Random House’s Code of Conduct and international human rights.

    “This is not just a book that we disagree with, and we are not calling for censorship,” the letter said. “Many of us work daily with books we find disagreeable to our personal politics. Rather, this is a case where a corporation has privately funded the destruction of human rights with obscene profits. Coney Barrett is free to say as she wishes, but Penguin Random House must decide whether to fund her position at the expense of human rights in order to inflate its bottom line, or to truly stand behind the values it proudly espouses to hold.”

    Signatories include employees of Penguin Random House, HarperCollins, and Barnes & Noble, as well as other publishers, authors and members of the press.

    “With the midterms coming up, and the 2024 election looming, the group decided it was time to make a statement,” @publishersbrunch told Publishers Weekly on behalf of the group of signatories. “We cannot, and will not, amplify the voices of extremists (like Amy Coney Barrett) who would gladly take away the rights of millions of Americans if given the chance. I’m extremely proud to see the responses thus far and hope that this action encourages others in the industry to speak out!”

    Get rid of the fly-down video. If I want to watch the video, I can do so, but I only care for the text, so I scroll down to the text, and a smaller version of the video is shoved in my face, partly covering the text I want to read. I just now clicked it off, and as I scrolled, it opened up, again. Four times it did this! It's a gimmick that nobody asked for or wants, but Yahoo seems to think we should watch it. Why? Website creators have all kinds of bells and whistles to play with, and they inflict them on us just because they can. No thought at all goes into it. Get rid of the fly-down videos.     Trump Is Back On His BS, Zeroes In On Black Voters With Plans To Challenge 2022 Elections

    Some of you may be disappointed to learn that former President Donald Trump, who tried to lie, cheat, and intimidate his way into staying in office after losing the 2020 election, has not learned a lesson from being impeached and investigated for his actions. On the contrary, Trump appears to be gearing up to start the process over again, using the 2022 midterm elections as practice for the next presidential race, and he’s still zeroing in on Black voters for his baseless legal challenges.

    Pennsylvania as a 2022 battleground
    Rolling Stone reports that Trump and his team are already planning to challenge the validity of Pennsylvania’s 2022 elections. The state is in the midst of several key races, such as a contest between Democrat Josh Shapiro and Republican Doug Mastriano for Governor. Trump is particularly interested in the race between Republican candidate Mehmet Oz – the TV personality known as “Dr. Oz” who has picked up a Trump endorsement for his hard-right platform – and Democrat John Fetterman.

    If Fetterman wins, as polls indicate is likely but not guaranteed in the close race, Trump’s team is reportedly ready to challenge the results in court, much like they did in several states where Trump lost in 2020. And the Trump legal strategy is particularly targeting Philadelphia, a heavily Black and heavily Democratic-leaning city that faced similar challenges from Trump after the 2020 election.

    Targeting Black voters
    Challenging Philadelphia’s votes is obviously a partisan strategy – like many urban areas of the country, the city tends to vote heavily Democratic, in contrast to the more conservative rural areas of Pennsylvania. But the strategy also has racial undertones.

    In 2020, the Trump campaign’s election challenges tended to target not only heavily-Democratic areas in swing states but specifically those with a heavy Black population – cities like Philadelphia, Atlanta, Detroit, and Milwaukee. Trump and his surrogates also targeted specific Black people, like Georgia election poll worker Shaye Moss and her mother Ruby Freeman, who were slandered and threatened by Trump and his allies with false claims that they rigged ballots in Fulton County. More recently, Trump has been falsely accusing the Democratic Party of stealing Black votes, refusing to believe that the vast majority of Black voters support Biden and Democrats over Trump and the GOP.

    Trump to face consequences?
    So far, Trump has failed to face any legal consequences for the attempts by himself and his followers to subvert democracy after the 2020 election, emboldening the former president to try the same tactics again. That could change soon, as Trump is currently facing multiple criminal investigations.

    The former president has recently been subpoenaed by the January 6 Commission, which has reportedly indicated that they believe he can be held criminally liable for the insurrection. Meanwhile, Trump allies are being forced to testify in a separate probe being conducted by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis related to his possible election tampering efforts in Georgia. And Trump may also face liability for stealing classified and sensitive documents as he left the White House and storing them in his Mar-a-Lago resort.

    Should any of these cases result in criminal charges soon, they could deter Trump’s involvement in challenging the 2022 election and put his 2024 plans in doubt. Until then, however, Trump and the Republicans who follow him seem focused on interfering as much as they can with any elections that do not go their way, especially those that are being decided on the strength of Black people heading to the polls.
