AMAZON HACK ALERT
8/10/2020 @4:00 – 5:00 PM EST we were trying to authenticate our Prime TV. The pass word got rejected, and we were slammed over to a help site. I waited about 20 minutes for and answer from the robot, Jeff. Then called a help number in Canada that was posted on the Amazon Website. I spoke to a person with a heavy Indian accent. He gained access to our computer, said that our IP address was compromised and wanted $1000.00 to remove the Trojan. We declined. Changed all passwords. Was this person an employee of Amazon?
Changed all passwords and was advised by our bank PNC to have our computer checked and the hard drive cleaned. I called Amazon on the phone and explained the problem. I gave then the phone number and they said they would send out an alert regarding the scam. In case you are wondering the phone, number is 1-877-287-2654.
I then asked if Amazon could re-reimburse me for the cleaning of my computer. They told me that the best they could do was to provide me with a $20.00 credit to my Amazon account.
I would not recommend Amazon to anyone again.
