  1. Position Eligibility for new Call Ups

I think a new call up should get position eligibility for the position they first play when called up. Like most players can be a SS and they play almost anywhere. I think if one is called up and they play in the OF or 3B or 2B they should get that first eligibility on there first position when called up.

  2. Carl Crawford

Why is Phillies Centerfielder Carl Crawford only listed as Utility? It really limits his position in a lineup. Thanks

    Hi Hank,

Carl Crawford is a retired MLB player and is no longer in the player pool in Yahoo Fantasy Baseball.

Justin Crawford is listed with OF eligibility in our game. If your league does not roster the OF roster position and uses CF/RF/LF, he will be shown with Util eligibility until he earns one of those positions by making 5 starts or 10 appearances at one of those spots.

  3. Josh Smith 2B TEXAS

Josh Smith is the rangers starting 2B and for whatever reason doesn’t have 2B eligibility. He started games there last season as well so i expected him to gain eligibility then; but this season he’s primarily playing at 2B and still hasn’t gotten the eligibility for whatever reason. Can you please review and update his positional eligibility across all leagues?

Thank you for reaching out regarding the position eligibility for Josh Smith. Batters need either 5 games started or 10 games played at a position to gain eligibility. Pitchers need 3 starts to gain SP eligibility and 5 relief appearances to gain RP eligibility.

  4. Consistency please?

What are the rules for YAHOO! baseball position eligibility? Heliot Ramos ONLY played LF in 2025 but has LF, RF, CF eligibility. I traded him because he should have LOST CF and RF eligibility. Hunter Goodwin only played C last season and lost his RF eligibility.

You are taking away from the user experience when you fail to consistently apply eligibility rules across players.

Thanks for the feedback regarding player position eligibility. Initial positions are determined based on info from the MLB roster and past performance. Once position eligibility is added for the season, it will not be removed. During the season, batters need either 5 games started or 10 games played at a position to gain eligibility. Pitchers need 3 starts to gain SP eligibility and 5 relief appearances to gain RP eligibility.

  5. Outfield eligibility by LF/CF/RF

Hi, it appears that leagues that use LF/CF/RF instead of the usual OF for their positions have seen players retain eligibilities at outfield positions they would not be expected to. A more extreme example of this is Rob Refsnyder retaining eligibility at center field, a position he has not played since 2023. Will this be updated before the season starts?

  6. What is the minimum games a player has to play at a position?

Ben Rice has 7 games at catcher, 15 games at 1B and 44 DH in the 2025 season. It is public knowledge, why is it not part of Yahoo fantasy sport knowlege?

  7. Fix the positions players actually play. If Ben Rice is listed as a DH, 1B, and C, let him be all three options.

If Ben Rice is listed as a DH, 1B, and C, let him be all three options. I don't see why he would be only 1B here on yahoo, but on baseball reference, it is clear he plays C and 1B (DH is less important). However, it needs to be fixed. https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/r/ricebe01.shtml

    Hey David,

Players changing positions can affect how you manage your team. Their positions are determined based on info from the MLB roster and past performance. Once the player has gained eligibility, they won't lose it even if they don't make additional appearances in the season.

    Determine position eligibility

The number of games a player completes determines position eligibility.

    • Position eligibility – 5 starts or 10 total appearances in a position.
    • Pitcher eligibility – 3 starts to be a starter, or 5 relief appearances to qualify as a reliever.

    Use the position eligibility countdown

The number under each position shows how many games remain until the player is eligible for that position. If an "E" appears in the column, they're already eligible to play.

    1. Under the "Players" tab, click Position Eligibility.
    2. Type the player's name into the available field.
    3. Click Search.

Jac was updated to add OF eligibility…

  10. Add "SP, RP'

You have a separate category for "SP" and "RP". If you added "SP, RP" you could thin out all of the "SP, RP's" in the "RP" category when searching for just "RP's" to pick up.
