I would love to see Yahoo add a "Vampire League" option for Fantasy Hockey.

A Vampire League uses normal weekly head-to-head matchups, but with an additional consequence: the winner gets to steal a player from the team they defeated. To complete the exchange, the winner sends one player from their own roster back to the losing team.

This gives every weekly matchup lasting importance. Winning does not just improve your record—it can strengthen your roster while weakening a direct opponent. Teams gradually evolve based on their results, rivalries become more meaningful, and even managers outside the playoff race remain involved because every matchup can reshape the league.

To keep the format fair and strategic, each team may protect one player from being stolen. In our league, the player placed in the UTIL slot is protected. This creates an important weekly decision: managers must choose which player they are willing to protect and which players they are willing to expose.

For example, if Team A defeats Team B, Team A may choose an unprotected player from Team B. Team A then sends one of its own players to Team B in return. The exchange happens after the weekly matchup is final, and the league continues with the updated rosters.

This format combines fantasy hockey roster management with an additional layer of weekly strategy. Managers must consider not only which lineup gives them the best chance to win, but also which valuable player they should protect if they lose.

Vampire leagues already work as a community-created format, but commissioners must currently manage every exchange manually. Official Yahoo support would make the format much easier to run and could introduce a fun new way to play Fantasy Hockey and potentially other sports as well.
