How can we improve New Mail?

sent pics to my email in 09 and now i cant see them

i sent myself some pics off of my phone in 09 before i deleted my info and sold the phone .now all it says is sent using picture talk messaging but there is no picture how can i retrieve the pictures as they are very important thats why isent them to me
