Keep commenting off
Though some comments were funnier and more informative than the articles. I like it quieter and without the haters.

Walking mouth breathing rec tums like LT Cook are why the comments should be shut down permanently. Ordering people around telling them what they will and will not do is be blatantly wrong

Reading comments are an option. You do not have to look at them. Meanwhile, do not try to take it from everyone else.

Agreed. Professional trolls just use the forum to spread hate.

It seems pretty simple to just not read the comments if you don't like them. Silly to ruin things for others, though.

Leave them off. I also enjoyed funny comments but everyone just reads the headlines then go straight to the comment section like a bunch of mouth breathers. Keeping them off encourages people to either read the f****** article or f*** off

Just read the comments below that have been made to this statement. The hate, rudeness and downright drool is horrible.

If you find commenting objectionable, all you have to do is not click on the show comments button. This really defies all rules of common sense. The system Yahoo has, if they would ease up on some of the moderating is perfectly fine WHEN IT’S TURNED ON.

Reading comments is optional. Just read the article and don’t click on the comments. Problem solved.

Then don't read the comments. Nobody forces you to do so.

The comment board was full of haters of just about every kind. Yahoo was very lax in controlling users with multiple identities, and did nothing about the users who spewed political/lifestyle hate on stories from birdwatching to minor hockey, all with the same rhetoric.
To not see it first hand, and not to see the results of it, (Yahoo closing comments) is your typical cancel culture of our current day. People only see what they want to see, facts are optional.

I encounter very few of those you call "haters", and almost all of them are just rabid anti-Trumpers. Why can't the libs just make their case if they disagree instead of viciously attacking the messenger?

So this idea must have been from a left wing lunatic getting tired of hearing some truth vs. propaganda.
