My opinion is that your Comments to news stories have resulted in a deeply divided country. Pleading that you end them.
The Comments area to your news stories has resulted in a very divided American public. You may have meant well originally, but the name-calling, abusive attacks, and an open invitation to foreign bots have undermined any good that you intended. As an American, I strongly suggest removing Comments for the good of discourse in this country.

Agreed 100 percent. I have not seen this level of hostility and vitriol in the comments on many other sites -- I'm including possible foreign influence in that. Most other major news network sites (and others like marketwatch) have better comment sections IMO with more balance politically and otherwise. Get rid of comments here.

Michael, the law is clear here. Yahoo is not a government organization: it is their prerogative to either allow people to comment on news stories or not.
Your first amendment rights are not the freedom to speak wherever about whatever you want to: it only states that the GOVERNMENT may not take away your right to speech.
Yahoo, you have an opportunity to shut down a platform that people have used in bad faith to divide the country. Have the moral courage to shutter the comments section for good.

The only reason I go to Yahoo News is because of the comments, take it away, and you will lose many subscribers. The end of Yahoo...

No comments means no freedom of speech. the comments don"t cause the problems they are a symptom of the problems and allows people to blow off steam. No allowing comments is a form of oppression.
