Rosters - Combine 2-way players into one player
Requests to combine 2-way players such as Shohei Ohtani into one player.

Why is the SP version of Ohtani on the IL in yahoo when he's not on the MLB IL???

It would be cool to combine dual eligibility players, so only one exists ie only one Ohtani or Lorenzen, not a Util + SP or RP. Then, the manager would need to choose if they wanted to start that player as a hitter or pitcher that game. If they are filling a "Util" spot, then it counts as hitting, and if they're filling a SP/RP spot, then it counts as pitching.
Alternatively, albeit more difficult, you could select each pitcher every day if their hitting stats count w/ the default set to no. I don't like this idea as much b/c it's too much work.

As Yahoo! has decided to have two Shohei Ohtani's for the 2019 season, it should at least be consistent in their eligibility tags. In the past and for literally every other player this season, Yahoo! has always deferred to the designations of Major League Baseball and its affiliated clubs as it relates to who is placed on the DL/IL, who is in the minors, who is on the bereavement list, etc. In the two Ohtani's case, however, Yahoo! is unilaterally making a determination of a player's injury status entirely separate --- not to mention contrary --- of Major League Baseball.
This seems to go against the whole purpose of fantasy sports, which is to mirror what is happening in the real-life game, and give fantasy players a chance to test their managing skills.
The easy solution appears to keep it consistent and to tag both Ohtani's the same way as designated by the Los Angeles Angels and recognized by Major League Baseball. This can be easily done by Yahoo!, as IL statuses change nearly every day. Further, players in redraft leagues have no need for Ohtani (pitcher) this year anyway, and those playing in dynasty leagues no doubt already know the risks of having to give a roster spot to a player who may not play (or play much) in a given year and can make their own determination of whether or not to take the risk and spend an active roster spot on Ohtani (pitcher) without Yahoo! attaching an unnecessary and MLB-inconsistent IL tag on him.
Do the right thing: Follow MLB's designations for both Ohtani's.

THIS!!! Yahoo needs to realize that having two Ohtani's is immensely frustrating, especially for keeper league formats.
Please change this!!!

Is this going to be an option this year? I don't get why if you want to split him up into 2 entities then you should be able to DL the SP part of him because he won't be pitching.

It appears Yahoo is ignoring the Ohtani problem this year. But the easiest way for them to do it now, is let leagues decide if they want to keep it the way it is now or Yahoo adds a third Ohtani that is both a UTIL and SP. Leagues that want two separate players can still do so but if your league wants one Ohtani then allow them that option.
Ohtani when on the DL or Injured list must take up two spots on our DL not one. In real life, he doesn't hit when he pitches. This year it appears he won't even pitch.
Fix it Yahoo. Other leagues have.

How about give leagues a choice on Ohtani
Why not have 3 Ohtani's in the Yahoo Universe and allow individual leagues decide how they wish to deal with him?Ohtani (Util & SP)
Ohtani (Util)
Ohtani (SP)Individual leagues can decide whether there are two or one in their league. If leagues what one unified player then they can set their own rules that the other two can't be rostered. If for some reason leagues like having two separate Ohtani's they can make the unified one off limits on rosters.
This seems something Yahoo can do now without disrupting leagues that prefer having two separate ones.
Can someone from Yahoo actually address this issue?

The dl needs to stick for the pitcher till he pitches
-

You can't take him off of dl as a pitcher of you don't give him the eligibility to be moved to a hitter . The pitcher is still on the shelf

And now that he's coming off the DL, the hare-brained "split Ohtani in two" plan gets worse!
If he was really 2 different players, one shouldn't affect the other. But if you own the pitcher, as most people do, you have to activate him when the hitter comes back. And give up a roster spot even though he might not pitch again this season.
Splitting the most exciting player to come along in decades was a lazy, ill-conceived idea that ruined his value and caused countless problems. When is Yahoo going to admit its mistake?

actually, it does make sense....but a pea brain such as yourself wouldn't understand! It is what it is….stop ******** and get a life bro! Move to ESPN....better bring the magnifying glass because folks over there think everyone has perfect vision!!

Think everyone is trying too hard to think of way just to get Ohtani in the hitter side of Yahoo Fantasy Baseball. There is a more simple solution to this whole thing. Give the commissioner the ability to turn on hitting stats for the all pitchers. With Ohtani/the good hitting pitchers in the NL/future 2-way player that are coming, this will allow you to get there batting statics into your daily/weekly stats be it good or bad.

simply put, i would like the ability to have Ohtani eligible at P & Util. he would only occupy one roster slot, but can only be put in 1 slot (P or Util) per day (or week)

It seems like it wouldn't be that difficult to have a single player who's eligible at both SP and Util. When he's in the SP spot you get his pitching stats, when he's in the Util spot you get his hitting. Plus he never hits and pitches in the same game anyway, so there's no downside.

Yahoo's non-response to Ohtani's two-way game has made what should be one of the most fun players in the league to own into someone who loses his unique value, and whose hitting half is barely rosterable. Even if Ohtani hits well when he gets the chance, his schedule keeps him resting often enough that it's not very simple to justify using a roster spot on him, and it shouldn't be that way. He's one guy in real life, and should be one here too.
A fix absolutely could be coded. That Yahoo went forward with a two player model just shows there was no will or creativity to find a solution. It makes fantasy baseball on Yahoo less fun.

He is one player why treat him as two. That would make the most common sense. Its a risk/reward thing. All teams have the option of drafting him so how would it be unfair to everyone else.
-
Andrew Richfield commented
Why not just have pitcher hitting stats count towards your overall hitting stats. I am sure this would be more realistic and consistent than only counting one or two (McKay could end up this way) players as special items?

Leave it to Yahoo. If there is a way to ***** something up, they will find a way. Everybody knew Ohtani was a 2 way player. If you didn't, you were hiding under a rock. The only people against making him 1 player are the ones who didn't draft him. The fact that you waited for the season to start before you adressed the situation shows yahoo's incompetence. There are no valid reasons for making him 2 players.

Carl LaCascia commented
Seriously Miles, get real. He is not listed as one player because he is essentially TWO players in one. Why would you give the lucky drafter a player who can be used for both hitting and pitching stats.
You know it is stupid requests like this that keep Yapoo programmers from actually improving their ****** product.

Carl LaCascia commented
I hate Yahoo Fantasy for many reasons but this is actually the best way. Why would you award a team that is able to draft him by giving them essentially TWO players in one.
Not only is having him as 2 separate players the def way to go, it is the most fair.
I think you need to focus on real improvements to Yahoo Fantasy not stupid requests like this.
How about allowing us to move multi position players during draft? How about adding the stats vs the pitcher they are facing back to the main profile page of each hitter like it used to be? How about basically doing some ANALYSIS of actual helpful changes you can make to improve a product that is turning into a dumpster.
