best optimal lineup
Our fantasy basketball league plays weekly head-to-head matchups with daily lineups and a limit of two player pickups per week.
We want an optional feature that automatically sets the best projected daily lineup using only players already on each team’s roster. It should start players with scheduled games, respect position eligibility and game locks, and recheck injury/rest status before tipoff to replace unavailable starters with eligible bench players.
Managers would still control pickups, drops, trades, and IR moves. We want to reduce daily lineup maintenance while keeping our existing scoring format.
Does your platform currently support this? If so, how do we enable it, and is it free or a premium feature? If not, please consider this a feature request. Load management and last-minute absences are making our league less enjoyable.
Hi Lebron,
Start Active Players, or Assistant GM if you have Yahoo Fantasy Plus, allows you to quickly fill your starting lineup on individual days or for the entire week. You can also choose to use either tool to automatically set your lineup in a single league, or all eligible leagues for that sport. After using either function, we recommend reviewing your lineups to be sure your players are in their desired positions. Please note that Start Active Players and Assistant GM are not available in leagues that use a Weekly roster transaction deadline.
Start Active Players
Enabling Start Active Players, or Assistant GM with Yahoo Fantasy Plus, will move players from your bench to your starting lineup. But, it will only replace players under certain conditions:
- Bench player has a scheduled game and starting player doesn’t.
- Bench player is eligible to play at the position of a starting player.
- Bench player is healthy and starting player is injured (and both have scheduled games).
Start Players for the week
Yahoo Fantasy Plus users can use Assistant GM to start active players for the entire week. Long game weeks (start of season, All-Star break) will run through the entire game week, not just Monday - Sunday.
Start Players across multiple leagues
You can now use Start Active Players or Assistant GM to set your lineup across all eligible leagues for a specific sport. The option to set your lineup across all eligible leagues is limited to accounts with 20 or fewer teams per sport.

How does the tool handle Starting Pitchers in Fantasy Baseball?
- Start Active Players or Assistant GM prioritizes Starting Pitchers (SPs) with projected starts over those that do not.
- These tools also look for Starting Pitchers (SPs), including (SP, RP) that have higher projected innings pitched (IP).
- To maintain accuracy, we only look at the next seven days for projected innings pitched.
