Code now to sign in, WHY?

I have been using Yahoo for years and now all of a sudden I have to have a code sent to my alternate account or cell phone before i can actually sign in, why? This is getting ridiculous, Whay was wrong with my username and password, worked for over 20 years.

    I now just use my G mail account. And Yahoo can just go away
