I closed an email account over 2 years ago and I am still getting boatloads of emails why hasn't yahoo deleted this address???

I closed an email account about 2 years ago. I am still getting boatloads of emails sent to this address. Why hasn't Yahoo deleted it so emails get kicked back to senders.
