Gtting rid of icons shown on inbox

My yahoo inbox now shows an icon or initials next to every email I receive. This is on my new mobile phone. The icons just take up space. I want to get rid of them. Please tell me how to make my inbox look the way I want it to, not the way you nerds at Yahoo want it.
