Censorship and I’m Done.
I’m an active duty U.S. Army officer. I’m a liberal. I don’t belong to a political party, but I tend to vote Democratic. I’ve used yahoo email since high school (when household internet was still new). Yahoo has been my homepage for almost as long. I don’t watch network news or listen to the radio, and Yahoo is where I get most of my news every day. As a progressive, I am officially done with your hypocritical authoritarianism and exploitation. Your articles come primarily from left of center to far left agencies (though I do see Fox News, National Interest, and other right wing content in my feed). Fine. Whatever. You editors or algorithms, though, seem to have a knack for picking the most misleading and outright dishonest clickbait headlines, regardless of the source. Whether it’s a “you” or your algorithms problem, Yahoo biases the most inflammatory and divisive content...just like the other ad-driven outlets. That’s still not the main issue. Your elimination of the comments section in the months leading up to an election is disgusting, appalling, and border-line terrifying. The banner you left in it’s place about Yahoo being a “safe...place” is disgraceful. You are effectively pumping targeted messaging into people’s lives and denying people the ability to discuss or criticize what they read. Americans don’t have a constitutional right to leave messages in comments sections of news articles. They do ,however, have a basic human right to dissent and discuss important issues. By denying communication on a communications platform, you are acting no differently than a Russia, China, Iran, (etc.) would. What you are doing is benefiting from the toxic climate that currently exists in these troubling times. I am officially done with your platform, it’s features, Yahoo email, Yahoo News, and everything else you have your hands in. I will find a better place to get my news and a better company to handle my correspondence or web searches. BTW, (P.S.) your in-house, internally written news stories are a joke. Your writers can’t spell, use proper grammar/ mechanics, string logical thoughts together, or be bothered to proof read. It’s clear that you (whoever “you” is) think clicks are more important than basic copy editing. You’re pathetic.
