Stop autoplaying videos on the Yahoo News home page
I see a lot of complaints about videos autoplaying when news articles are opened. That's annoying because it is unnessarily chewing up bandwidth. Recently when I first go to the Yahoo news home page, a video autoplays on the upper right side of the screen. I find this extremely annoying. I've used Yahoo News as my primary online news source for at least 12 years and now I think I need to look at less intrusive alternatives.

It's now been five years of "gathering feedback," and no action to correct the problem. Most annoying is hearing audio from an auto-playing video not connected to the story you're reading (or video you're watching.) On a number of occasions I've had to scroll up and down to locate the story whose audio is interrupting my read. NOT COOL!

I rarely look at Yahoo News now. I go straight to the Reuters website where I don't have to put up with autoplay videos. They also know the difference between real science and health articles and general news or paid ads. If I want additional news, I check for different sources through Google. And the new format is awful. I want to read text, not scroll endlessly through pictures. Did you do any usability testing before rolling this out, or are you relying on what some executive who struggles to read prefers?
Autoplay is invasive. If I want to watch a video, I am perfectly capable of clicking on it.

I briefly considered filing a complaint with the BBB about Yahoo! over this, but Yahoo! already has an F rating, so it wouldn't do much good.
Coming up on FIVE YEARS OF "GATHERING FEEDBACK" on the 2nd-ranked customer request. I think you have all the feedback you need.
FIX IT NOW.

Stop having videos or audio autoplay

First of all, stop the "autoplay" on articles with video. Most times we'd rather read the article rather than having to suffer listening to a "talking head" droning endlessly. If we want to see the video, we'll start t ourselves.
Also frequently when "autostart" engages and we pause the video, a moment later the news page resets to the top of the page and we have to scroll back down to find the article AGAIN. INCREDIBLY ANNOYING.

What the F is wrong with you? Autoplaying video of someone abusing a dog on nannycam....what makes you think anyone wants to scroll through and see that? I didn't click the story and I certainly didn't start playing the video.....if you need me I'll be a Google!
FOUR F***ING YEARS OF "GATHERING FEEDBACK?!?"
Stop this. I have largely stop browsing Yahoo News because I don't k now when my computer will unexpectedly start screaching out music or people talking.

I am reading an article and a video starts spoon feeding the same stuff as the article. Its very annoying, sometime plays or 4 videos and wastes end user bandwidth. It might be time to find another news source if this isn't corrected. I have already sent the same complaint to the FCC. At one-time they had banned the auto playing of videos.

Stop playing news link videos automatically! That is what the play/pause button is for. And it is not a double click item either dumb *****.

Hi, on the News section when I open news items in new tab it is frustrating when your videos autostart and the sound startles me! It would be great to be given the option to watch videos instead of them autostarting because it's just a lot more clicks and waiting time. Wait for it to load then the ad then wait to pause it when you could be reading the article all that while. I like opening few interesting articles in different tabs and go through them slowly so multiple tabs have videos and cacophony. Also if you ignore seeing the videos it keeps scrolling down as you read which is very annoying and forces you to stop to pause it before reading article.
The other thing I find a little annoying is the auto clicked "Sign in" box when you want to open your email. Every time, I have to unclick it. Wouldn't it be great to leave people the option to choose to click if they want to stay logged in?
Whoever dreamed up the new way you are presenting the news videos should go to work for the Comedy Channel! The loud music and large captions across the screen add nothing to the videos and is very off-putting. I have just stopped watching the videos and only read the news
Fed up with having to play whack a mole due to pop-up windows of comments and auto play windows, and having to constantly adjust volumn to hear audio up for voices then blaring yahoo music. Getting to be a real joke here!.

Between all the ads, auto playing videos and videos on stories that don't even have anything to do with the story, you have hands down become a big steaming pile of YaPoo
I couldn't agree more. Stop this auto play nonsense. Once Verizon purchased Yahoo and Marissa Mayer was given the boot, I expected Yahoo's homepage experience to get better. Au contraire. It got WORSE !!!

1. It disturbs the peace of other members of my household who don't need to hear it.
2. It distracts me from reading the text.
3. Even if I pause it, it sometimes pops right back up and starts playing when I scroll down to keep reading.
