[Chat/Message Boards] Message Board Removal Feedback
Feedback regarding the removal of message boards from Fantasy Baseball in the 2023 season.
Fantasy league message boards are not going to be available for the current season however you can still access historical message board posts through your fantasy profile. You can continue to communicate with your league via Fantasy Chat, email and commissioner notes. Moving forward we are investing in chat as the best place for league communication and will be adding threading, pinning, polls and more. We welcome your feedback below about how your league used message boards to help us make future improvements.

It is imperative that there be a messaging function that allows for threaded conversation.
I'm in baseball and basketball leagues that have been running for 20+ years, and I strongly believe that they would not have held together if the main option for communication to the entire league was a chat feature only available on a smartphone. It strips the ability of including needed nuance and makes conversations more reactionary and reduces them to less thoughtful spam behavior.
We don't want to have to manage using a 3rd party messaging service to supplement a now missing key functionality of Yahoo Fantasy Sports. Even if the plan is to introduce these needed features, it is poor execution to leave use with a gap of time where we are forced to use communication channels that are more difficult to use.
There needs to be a web-based messaging option that allows for threads/posts that can individually be replied to. There needs to be a way to have multiple conversations happening because that's what happens when you have multiple managers having discussions on rule change suggestions, trade talk, real-life league team talk, offline draft picks, etc.
The first thing that came up in our baseball league chat when we realized this change was put in place was if there were now better options than Yahoo for a fantasy sports platform.
We've stuck with Yahoo because of the simple and easy-to-use setup. We favor a league with weekly lineups and transactions that process only once per week as well. The purpose is to allow us to fully participate in the league without having to constantly participate with our time throughout the week. This change of removing the message board I think goes against what my perception of Yahoo Fantasy Sports has always been. Also, it introduces yet another technological creep where if someone wants to participate in something that they enjoy then they must engage in it using a cell phone.Personally, I would prefer to not have the Yahoo Fantasy installed on my cell phone at all. I understand the need to develop for it. Heck, I understand that me saying that will make my voice less likely to be listened to since I am basically saying I want to be less engaged and use Yahoo services for less time than the average user. The usage numbers probably show that more people use a smartphone app than the web interface. And I'm assuming that is why things have unfolded as they have. The message board function couldn't be easily made to work in the smartphone app, and usage aka monetization is higher in the app. So scrap the message board entirely.
Again, I don't want to have to find a different fantasy sports service. Many of my league members will not want to either. But if the product is now clearly inferior in our eyes, there is not a lot of friction keeping us from reacting to this change and the incentive to moving our leagues for what we have seen as a basic functionality for many years.

Hello
Ive been a yahoo commissioner for almost 20 years. ALL of my regular leagues and my keeper leagues had all trades are voted on and signings posted on the message boards. That way the whole league knew what was happening and there was transparency.
THIS IS A DISASTER FOR MY LEAGUES.
I have a following of over 200 yahoo players and organize over 20 leagues a season in baseball and over 30 in football for you guys. This will make running my leagues difficult if not impossible. I will consider disbanding my leagues...
Checkout my history and you will see how my leagues run.
PLEASE allow commissioners to choose message boards (if they elect to ) for their leagues.
This NO message board mandate should be in public leagues only.

It's been almost 3 weeks since this particular feedback page was created, and we still have no answers from Yahoo. This is unacceptable. I've had several issues with Yahoo over the last 20 years, but I've never seen a feedback page like this. Literally every comment on this topic is negative. Removing the message boards without having a backup option readily available is ridiculous. DO SOMETHING YAHOO, LEAGUES NEED TO COMMUNICATE NOW. Key Dates: March 30 (Opening Day). We need to figure out keepers & draft details well before then.

Not sure I am understanding why you are removing this feature. If it is not broken don't fix it. Message Boards are better then chat and email. I don't want my email clogged up and chat can be done via phones and such. Message Board always provides me with some sort of anticipation upon pulling up my fantasy everyday, especially during football season. Yahoo is great for fantasy sports, but if you start removing features, especially popular ones, our league may look at other platforms.

This league uses the message board for basic communication between players and as commish, for the maintenance of the league. Discontinuing the message board is a huge mistake.
On a second subject. The new players info pages are amazingly stupid. Yahoo has removed about 90% of the content to add a large picture of the player. The old format gave us the last ten games line scores. Everything we needed to see if we want to add a player, now we can only see two stats. The player news feaature had been destroyed as useful. -

I know I have added my comments before, but have seen no comments or replies from Yahoo. The majority of people on this feedback forum, are against the change and I am one as well. The message board was the easiest and most convenient way to reach all managers and to make sure there was history of the decision. My league has been going for 12 years and everything is shared on those message boards.
I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THAT YAHOO DOES NOT GET RID OF THIS MESSAGE BOARD, AND BRINGS IT BACK FOR THIS SEASON.

The message boards are literally the only way we can organize our league. There is zero communication without them. This is going to kill leagues.

This is incredibly stupid. Message boards kept everything organized by thread and reduced the emails and having another chat I have to follow. I am looking to move all of my leagues off of Yahoo as a result. Having chat without threads to track conversations and having every league roster move included is incredibly cluttered. You need to a solution to this ASAP or bring back the message boards. The chat also is on on the app, so from a desktop is useless.

Absolutely terrible. This will be the end of my keeper baseball league. You made a terrible error Yahoo. Must have made lots of layoffs, eh? 🗑️

the no message board thing really sucks... we have a bimonthly posting and other cool stuff... league has had the same EIGHT core players since 2007... this blows.. weekly recaps, rumors, etc... Plus the Swami checked in with predictions ... this once wonderful product continues to deterioate ... ugggh. I'm 73, 15 years ago some most of the guys in the league were still in college... now grown with families... Yes, we LOVE baseball... Yes, we love torturing ourselves with this marvleously maddening game... but now the treasure is the rivalries and friendship that were built on those message boards.

My 10 year Baseball Leagues are now deleted. Good job Yahoo. :( Next comes my Football Leagues.

It was a MUCH BETTER way to approach a trade and offer it up to the whole league. Felt less sneaky than a chat.

ABSURD. Chat is not useful enough for what we use the message board for. All league functions we use in the pore season are through them message board. Can't even begin to do that through chat. Yahoo without the message boards goes from being one of the very best fantasy sports sites to the worst. You seriously need to reconsider this horrendous mistake on your part

Message board is critical for league communication. Not all players use the fantasy app, and rely solely on the message board for communication.

This was a terrible decision as you can see from the responses. The message board was/is the easiest way to communicate with the whole league. BRING BACK THE MESSAGE BOARDS!

Does this have to do with the layoffs at Yahoo??? is getting rid of the message boards a vindictive move by unhappy Yahoo employees (or soon-to-be ex-employees), perpetrated to intentionally push people away from Yahoo??? [It's the only motive that makes sense]
It's ridiculous how (when posting here), it says "How can we make Fantasy Baseball better?"
Fully explain why Message Boards were abruptly taken away OR put them back on so we can follow through with at least one more season of fantasy sports with Yahoo.
