Less GUI-oriented, more operational features
Overall, I kind of like Yahoo. But 'let us do more, please'.
I just think that it is not at the level one could expect in 2017 regarding what you can do with an email client...
Moving icons around is fine. Switching between 6 theme-colors is okay. And I guess there is a lot done server-side. But providing users with more features would make Yahoo Mail one of the best email service provider there is. For now, every update have more or less just messing with my habits, but without providing me with any more options to be more efficient.
For now, I think it is just following the tendency to reduce on-screen information and making things less cluttered. One example is the disappearance of the number of emails in the spam folder. Why is that by the way? Consistency is one of the most basic principle for GUI, and it is not respected... Anyway... We are still missing a lot of solutions to do more things than clicking and reading an email.
Filtering: Yahoo is really poor on that. I basically cannot use this little feature as it is not advanced enough to do the things I would like to do (e.g., filtering based on address book). And the actions for filtering are also limited (moving in folder). I also don't see the 'create filter based on this message' option....
Organizing: Yahoo is also really poor on that. Folders are one way to go. But labeling, or just coloring is another way - which would also provide the benefit to have an overview in one go instead of switching folders. Although labels might not be standardized yet to work with 3rd party software, I believe Yahoo would manage to provide their own app / software that would keep users in a total Yahoo environment. And maybe some Yahoo employee can come up with an idea a little bit different than the concurrence...
Sending email: how is it that I can't send an email to a contact by just hovering the email address and click 'send an new email'? Also, how is it that there is no option to send an email to people (in or not in contacts) in a previous mail in one click? (I mean a new email, not a reply)
Calendar: Why can't we easily create an event based on an email? And vice-versa, how is it that we can't easily link an email with an event? (The reminder would provide the link to the email, or something else)
Threads (might not be a general problem though): some mailing list increase an index number positioned in front or after the subject. This creates a new email thread instead of linking the newly arrived email to the previous one.
2 Yahoo Accounts: okay, they are linked. But we have to switch between the two anyway. An easier way to (at least) have an overview of both account at once would be greatly appreciated!
I am sure I am missing some other ideas that could be useful for other users. But the main concept is "let us do more please". Also, my comment focuses on the negative aspects without mentioning the good points (good search feature, good 'go to top' feature, good anti-spam feature, cool 'second email address' feature, , we can have (and hence give you) 10G of data, etc). But that the reason for asking more: what we have is good (in general), let's focus on the next steps instead of playing with some layout options (although this point is also limited...)
This comment is covering a lot of topics. But the general idea is to not ask for each topic one by one (which I don't want to spend time doing). Just give Yahoo some feedback (like the misleading button in Yahoo Mail says).
