How about the magnifier and trash can to one side and star to the other?
The proximity of the star to the magnifier seems to give some real problems, so they should be separated. I selected the star to see what it does and so far as I'm concerned, it's a terminally cute feature that can be eliminated.

I used the magnifying glass nearly every day to search for emails by a certain sender. I would then be able to find the email I was looking for or delete a bunch of unwanted emails from that particular sender...
