For the past two weeks, the exact same ad has haunted the side of my Yahoo inbox on loop.
It's an AI-generated video of a man biting into half an avocado... with the skin still on it. As he pulls the avocado away from his face, a big chunk of avocado remains on his lip as he slowly chews. And it repeats. Endlessly.
I thought it would eventually change to a different ad. I held out hope. For two weeks, I saw that horror of a GIF above text saying, "Americans Have Been Lied to About Avocados."
It finally changed.
Now it's the same video, and the text says, "If You Eat Avocado Daily This is What Happens."
I don't care what happens if I eat avocados daily.
I don't care if I've been lied to about avocados.
I don't know or care whether that ad is pro- or anti-avocado.
I do care that I feel trapped by this hellscape of an advertisement.
Please... let there be a way to make it stop.
