... and now you have learned a valuable lesson about how Bill Belichick operates.
Fantasy football is about individual players. Some players are risky because of injuries, some are risky because of their coaching staff ... but a little luck and good risk management is how you win.

If your league uses head-to-head as a tie-breaker it is possible to adjust scoring to keep you in the playoffs ... but I agree it should be made an easy option.

It's not perfect, but if your league has different tiebreaker rules you can work around this by having the commissioner adjust the results of games to let the right people in.

You can't have one team get a bye - you'd end up with three teams in your second round (unless you want to put the top seeded team directly into the championship game). If you want to do a five-team playoff, you have to have 4-5 play the first week with 1-2-3 getting byes, then 1-(4,5) and 2-3 play in the semis. It's the exact same number of byes as if you were to do a 6-team championship bracket and a 4-team consolation bracket.

I agree. While my preference is letting the top 6 get in, I think this would be a great option to have. What's the point of having divisions if they have no meaning for the playoffs?

I understand that you're asking for this to be the default setting, but this is already an option in private leagues. It's exactly what my league currently does.

I'm fine with having that as an option ... but luck is going to play an even bigger factor if you want to include all the week 17 benchings.

Drafts would be **** ... but that's an interesting idea. That would all but eliminate useful waivers, and trades would become essential to competing. I'd be interested to spend a year in a league like that.

That reminds me of a couple weeks ago when the Colts lost 34-51 to the Steelers while putting up the 6th highest score that week. They went crying to Roger Goodell, saying "It's just not fair - we would have beat 23 other teams this week but we still got a loss - that's not right!" Goodell said "You make such a convincing point! You shouldn't get a loss just because you lost. You tried soooo hard! Here's an extra win because you did such a good job!!!!!"

Fair enough - I was wrong. I still think it will pretty much approximate total points over a long enough period of time ... but it does reward consistency. Here's my league:
Record; Points; AllPlay
6-2-0, 1; 1196.32, 1; 71-17, 1
5-3-0, 2; 1119.84, 2; 55-33, 2
4-4-0, 6; 1028.32, 4; 48-40, 3
5-3-0, 3; 1024.4, 5; 47-41, 4
4-4-0, 5; 1045.4, 3; 44-44, 5
2-6-0, 11; 990.44, 6; 43-45, 6
2-6-0, 12; 965.92, 7; 43-45, 6
4-4-0, 7; 963.38, 8; 42-46, 8
5-3-0, 4; 946.9, 9; 36-52, 9
3-5-0, 10; 940.02, 11; 36-52, 9
4-4-0, 8; 940.12, 10; 35-53, 11
4-4-0, 9; 915.64, 12; 28-60, 12I personally like head-to-head since this is how sports works - sometimes you lose 42-35, sometimes you win 13-9 - but I see why this could be attractive to people.

That's not really any different than going by total points instead of head-to-head.

It's probably a safety measure so that commissioners can't change the rules during the middle of the season. How is Yahoo supposed to know whether or not your league voted on something?

Honestly, as someone who plays exclusively PPR ... I don't know how a separate PPR mock draft would do a better job of preparing me. A few mock drafts won't tell you which players to target - your league is going draft differently than a handful of strangers (half of which leave early), and there is PPR ADP data available. I do mock drafts to make sure I have a good system of deciding between players. The specific players don't matter.

Good idea - this (as well as fractional DST scoring) should be an option, and probably default if a league uses fractional scoring for other positions.
The whole point of fantasy football is to pick a team of individual players. Some players (including Hoyer and Manziel) are riskier than others, and successfully managing this risk is how you win. If you're uncomfortable dealing with the risk of individual players, why not just bet on games? That gets you the "group performance" you want.
