The "Control Your Ads" Feature
Kia Ora, I have a problem and solution scenario: Firstly, I'd like to thank you that Yahoo is free. I'd also like to thank you for having this box here, and being reachable. And I'd also like to thank you that you're going to read what I have to say, you're going to listen; and no matter how crazy the following sounds, you're going to at least try and do something good as a result, if you can, and stick to reading the letter I'm writing, the whole letter, as otherwise it won't make sense even more (but just know that as the letter goes on, what I'm saying gets better.). I know it may appear a crazy rant, but at the end, there is a possible solution (or at least the start of one, that your brilliant minds can possibly thing to finish up there... or if need be, when I'm not half asleep and preoccupied etc, I might be able to give more thought to concerning both the problem and the solution), and again, if there's any misspelled words (I tried to spell check em, and backspace, etc. it's really late at night/early n the morning, ... it's now 1:49 am, I've been writing all this for about almost, if not two hours; I started at nearly, if not midnight!)
Secondly, I'd like to complain. I am seeing too many ads with people in their underwear or bra. I feel, as a Christian, they look indecent, and worse, I'm trying to do something, and I am distracted, having to pray for forgiveness, whether I had any inappropriate thoughts or actions or maybe feelings, or um.. not... I just automatically feel guilty. And this isn't like it only happened once. I have recently kept seeing ads like this; as a mental health sufferer, this has raised my anxiety; could spin me wrestling with suicidal thoughts on a bad mental health day; on a good day, which are rare, I try to "inspect it" and delete the image being displayed on my screen. On an average day, I have to pray forgiveness because I feel offended and upset... then I have to try and move on... either way, between the ads flashing and changing so much, and my computer screen being broken and flashing on as it does, I am having trouble even deleting the images for long enough to do what I need to do; so tonight/this next morning, I am staying awake and diverting from my email-sorting mission (reading them, filing them away perhaps, just basic stuff, right), and I'm emailing you to stop with the indecent images; I don't imagine that you show them in a muslim country? I think you at yahoo, must have some team, who control what we see...
I don't want to see people in their underwear (whichever gender) nor naked humans.. I don't want to see halloween, witchcraft, demonic looking stuff; I don't want to see monsters, movie ads, sitcom ads, or even religious/anti-religious or political ads. Really I'm not here to see ads, I'm here to check my emails, from people who (hopefully) I've subscribed to, or I've met somewhere. I even might come to check my inbox to relax. I don't come to get bombarded with ads to subliminally cause me to buy underwear, movies, a loan, give to charity, drink alcohol (which, by the way, I don't consume for moral purposes; the way I got that way is another story); do drugs, go to a private shrink, spend money on things I neither can really afford and nor need, change insurances, etc. etc. etc. ... I don't want anything that would make me stumble in My Faith; personally, I don't want ads; If I did, I would google them up, and search for them, like I do everything else I'm interested in buying online or learning about online. And I'm budget. I believe that if you want me to be a customer, that you are truly wasting your money and your time; I am not only budget, but I'm aware of your techniques, I'm aware, most days of what is going on in my subconscious, and I know what to tell it, to break your ads' power over it! I have, on my Journey, Been Able To Connect With Parts Of Me, That Are Not just on the surface. My mind is very strong, I know forces that are stronger than human minds, I just don't send them to sick you all, because As A Christian, I Believe My God Wants To Save Your Lives, Not destroy them. It's In The Bible. I Believe The Lord Jesus Christ Loves You At Yahoo... So I'm Telling You All, You Need To Repent Of forced advertising and Let Humans Be; Stop tying to control us; because I don't like it; I don't think others like it; and to this day, never have I met anybody who tells me that they like the ads on yahoo, when they're checking their emails on their PC.
Thirdly, I'd like to suggest and maybe tell you what might and what does not, or probably won't in the longrun, work: If you guys just scrapped any partial to full nudity and (and yes, the underwear looked distracting) and alcohol and gambling and other things that cause not only 'religious folk' problems, but other people as well... yeah.. like maybe stop showing TEMU, as they're trying to deal the Western Countries dirty, by selling cheap stuff to run Americans (and probably New Zealanders and Australians) out of business...
And maybe, if you have to advertise, put on ads of cats and beautiful animals, not mindfulness and buddhist ideas, just calm relaxing cats, nice yummy food dishes, local garage sales, things that are made in the country you're advertising to, that are innocent, fun, and family friendly, perhaps, if advertising underwear or swimwear, maybe advertising it by itself and not on a naked human body... maybe advertise sunflower seeds, make good ads that attract people, to buy stuff that would ordinarily look boring, but is family friendly; it will work after a given amount of time; also, if there's a company selling family friendly stuff for a good decent price, really low, or there's a free event or product, and it's not going to offend any known persons, advertise that, because you'll get a response, people who are local might go to buy/partake it; and if you're not sure an ad is offending anyone, if someone is "inspecting it" like with like the "Inspect (Q)" feature and hitting "delete" on the image over and over again, it's likely that a particular ad (or just any ad) has annoyed them (and advertising more tasteful products and services and events, might just let them see that there are good ads out there, there is "good in humanity", "a reason to LIVE!", "that there's still good out in the world"... I'm positive, with my experience with working with (being friends with) other people who have mental health, there are people out there, who also really just think that the ads are annoying (because they're distasteful)... If you could either please try and improve the quality of your taste in ads, or just allow people to not have to look at any, and they can watch them if they opt in. or
Perhaps, my Best Solution: perhaps a survey with the following options:
How satisfied are you with the ads in your inbox:
a) Not satisfied at all
b) I don't notice them
c) They're alright
d) I like them a lot
If you had the choice: ads/no ads, what would you choose?
a) ads
b) no ads
c) better ads
d) not sure
What don't you like, if anything about the ads in your inbox?
[] distracting
[] distasteful
[] causing me to spend too much money
[] causing me to spend too much time
[] causing me distress
[] causing relationship issues
[] causing me to gain weight
[] causing me depression
[] causing me to be tempted to otherwise sin or break the law even because of the content that I'm seeing...
[] other (please list briefly here: )[____________________________________________________]
What kinds of ads would you like to see the most?
[] ads with cats and cute little furry animals looking all comfortable during winter, wrapped up and warm or on a beautiful thing, made for a pet/ads with pets enjoying the outdoors in summer
[] lovely cooked food dishes (and raw edible food dishes) of all kinds of diets that look "yum!" and they have a recipe you can look at if you click on them, and they really deliver, with the promise of more recipes when you subscribe to their email list, buy a book online or you go to where their ingredients are being sold and you let them know how your food adventure went
[] ads for raw ingredients to make food (such as gardening materials or seasonal produce or local places selling raw ingredients
[] hobbies where you put things together
[] local businesses that sell things made in your country
[] local garage sales, events and services
[] real and local places where a business is starting and maybe growing
[] local places where you can get an education
[] other (please write here: ) [__________________________________________]
[] I'll email you my idea(s)
[] just no ads would be nice, please opt me out (if the ads make it free, I'm happy to chip in a little for no ads or pay to share my own.)
Lastly, my Final Words For (the before I go to sleep part) : This will show our kind people at Yahoo, what the market is thinking... maybe don't call it a survey, make an ad that says, "dissatisfied with the current ads, would you like to see it change? You might be able to control your own ad content." And perhaps have a setting where people can see the list of ads we can choose from, if we must have ads and if that's something that's helping with yahoo... so, if we like, we can decide which companies and/or ads from which companies, display on our email window on our PC, not to mention, that might be a good thing, if that could be applied to the rest of (the internet) but perhaps, at least Yahoo! Who knows, with "Yahoo Control what ads you see" featured as an advantage, people might prefer Yahoo over Google and over other competitors who don't really let you control what you see, while having the ability to make an informed choice.
Thank you for that. Have a nice day.
Kind regards,
