The new app layout for mail looks quite nice in some ways but I find the decision to have read/unread messages use a background colour change very ugly and not intuitive..

Please can you go back to or an add an option for unchanging background between messages and use the weight and colour of the font like you do elsewhere to denote read messages

white theme: black bold font = unread; grey = read
dark theme: pure white bold font = unread; grey = read

this is what you do on your iOS app and most other apps and is nice and clear without the cluttering banding of the background changing to reflect unread and the main text weight and colour differences being hard to spot...
