I also wanted to point out something I’ve noticed since submitting my original suggestion.

I’ve been posting about this issue in the comment sections of a number of Yahoo’s top-100 player pages, and the response has been interesting. I’m consistently getting thumbs-up reactions and comments from other Yahoo fantasy baseball users who agree that the playoffs should start earlier.

What’s especially telling is that I haven’t really seen a substantive argument against the proposal. The most common response from people who disagree is essentially, “adapt and be better.” 😂

But that doesn’t really address the issue. Of course fantasy managers can adapt. The question is whether Yahoo’s default format should intentionally create this much additional late-season randomness when there’s a simple alternative: move the playoffs up approximately two weeks.

It’s honestly a little insane how much we have to alter a team that we spent roughly 23 weeks building just to survive the final three weeks of the season — the three weeks that matter most, when championships are on the line and, in many leagues, money is on the line.

For 23 weeks, you’re building a roster around talent, production, category needs, consistency, and long-term value. Then the playoffs arrive and suddenly you’re expected to completely change that team because of late-season shutdowns, skipped starts, workload management, changing rotations, rest days, bullpen changes, and unpredictable playing time.

There’s a big difference between having to make smart adjustments and having to substantially change the entire construction of a team you spent 23 weeks building simply because the fantasy playoffs were scheduled during the most unpredictable part of the MLB season.

If the response to concerns about all of this is simply “managers should adapt,” that doesn’t explain why the current format is actually preferable. It only means managers can survive it.

I’ve also seen multiple users say they would consider moving their leagues to other platforms if Yahoo continues scheduling the default playoffs this late. I obviously can’t speak for how many people would actually leave, but when that sentiment keeps coming up from different users, I think it’s worth taking seriously.

Yahoo shouldn’t have to wait until users leave before addressing a format issue that could be proactively improved.

I’m not asking Yahoo to force every league to use an earlier schedule. Private leagues can continue customizing their settings however they want. I’m simply asking Yahoo to reconsider the default schedule for public leagues based on what the MLB season actually looks like today. Or at least giving us an option of joining a league thats 20 weeks long. You’d see that the majority of people would choose and sign up for the 20 week season as opposed to the 23 week one.

If Yahoo believes the current schedule is preferable, I’d genuinely like to understand what the actual benefits are of keeping the playoffs this late, and what Yahoo believes would be lost by moving them approximately two weeks earlier.
