I'd like the pop up to stop that wants me to review the new mail, it would be nice if the news was as readable as it used to be and not links to other sites that wanted to give me a pic or paragraph at a time.

When I go back to classic mail, I don't get the UI that I had in 2016 which was about as perfect as the UI for Yahoo Mail has ever been; instead I get a UI that is over ten years old, has no drag-and-drop, no multi select by keyboard, no preview pane and no display filters.
Come on Yahoo. It isn't difficult to give people the choice of 3 UIs.
Your new UI only works on a crippled list of browsers. Your previous UI worked on any browser that the rest of the planet still accepts is standards compliant, modern and secure.
A party-like-it's-2004 UI should only ever be the fallback if no other option would work - e.g. if the user is running Netscape on Windows 95 and explicitly enables a "Yes I accept the risks and want this" option.
And, how about preferences screens that you can access REGARDLESS of which browser you're using? No point posting repeat instructions on how to click on the cog button when the cog button often doesn't work in any browser except one on your shortlist.

What goes on in the heads of Yahoo folk when they think ONE WEBSITE has the right to dictate to me which browser (and which specific version of that browser) I must use?! I have three choices: enable a UI that flatly refuses to work on ALL my browser preferences and forces me to use browsers I don't want, stick to a UI that is completely browser-agnostic but looks twenty years old, or switch email providers.
What was wrong with the UI you had before this new UI, which was browser agnostic and perfectly serviceable? Why can't we have this option?

I don't get this.
Yahoo service has declined over the years and now we are introduced to a paid option? For what?
The other major email providers have much better mailboxes/layouts/service/performance and are 100% free.
And haven't been hacked multiple times over the years.
So what I would expect is to first step it up and make a clean fast efficient and modern webmail service and then on top of that add more features.
Shoving ads to our faces and paying up to get rid of them isn't something that will work in the market. It may give some quick money back but as soon as people leave, you ll never be able to win them back.
So much dissapointment.
