What are you asking for?
The unread/read categories have really made this platform unworkable and difficult. Now, some of my new messages go the unread folder, but disappear once I open them. I have no idea where to look for them now. Meanwhile, some new messages come into my inbox, as I am accustomed to seeing. How do I make all my new messages go to the inbox?

Hi Scott, with the new desktop experience you'll see at the top, there are Inbox Categories. So when looking for all your email, please look under the "All" Category. It does default to Priority, so please make sure you're in All.
ALSO, we understand not everyone will want or like the Inbox Categories, therefor you can disable this under your Settings and go back to just having one Inbox. Thanks.
