Critical Feedback: Broken Spam Management and Hidden Regressions in Free Accounts
The current state of spam management in Yahoo Mail is completely broken, forcing free users into an incredibly tedious, manual workflow just to maintain a clean inbox.
Previously, users could select multiple spam emails via checkmarks and block them instantly in bulk. Removing this feature forces users to open each email individually, copy the sender's address, paste it into a temporary composed email draft to group them, and then manually create individual filters. Because free accounts are strictly capped at 500 filters, this manual workaround is the only way to maximize space against a relentless wave of identical spam that Yahoo’s default filters completely fail to catch. The native spam filter is letting too many duplicate, obvious scams straight into the primary inbox.
Furthermore, Yahoo has quietly stripped away vital features and moved them behind paywalls or discontinued them entirely without transparently informing the user base:1. Bulk Checkmark Blocking: The ability to select multiple messages from the inbox view and instantly block or add them to a blocked list is completely gone.
2. Domain-Level Blocking: Free users can no longer block entire domains (e.g., @scamcompany.com). This critical defense against rotating spam addresses is now restricted to Yahoo Mail Plus.
3. Drastic Storage Reductions: The legacy 1 TB of free storage was quietly scaled back to a restrictive 15 GB–20 GB limit in many regions, forcing users to delete history or buy subscriptions.
4. Automatic Email Forwarding: The ability to automatically forward Yahoo emails to a different inbox for free was removed, locking a basic internet protocol behind a paid subscription.
5. Direct "Block Senders" Shortcuts: The quick shortcut to block a sender directly from the three-dot "More" menu inside an open email was completely removed from the desktop layout.
Productivity tools should not be disabled or hidden behind paywalls to intentionally make the free experience miserable. Inbox security and efficient spam management are fundamental rights for all email users, not premium upsells. I strongly urge the development team to reinstate bulk blocking tools and upgrade the core spam detection engine.
