When using the left-panel version of the UI, when you select a message, there are TWO sets of action buttons (archive, move, delete, etc.) shown on the screen, very close to each other. The upper set of buttons affect the selected message(s), whereas the lower set of buttons affect the currently open message. It's VERY confusing to have two nearly identical UI elements on the screen that do two distinctly different things, and I often click the wrong button. In the old UI, once you select a message, the buttons that apply to the currently open message are replaced by the ones affecting the selection. Maybe do something like this in the new UI, too?
