While not exactly what you want if you are a commish in a private league you can currently change the point total for Kickers to be a different value based on the kick distance ( 0-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49 and 50+ ) in addition to subtracting points for field goals missed in those same ranges. To do this go to Commish Tools then Edit Stat Categories.

I agree with this. In case some people would want to use this model while still having any FG being rewarded a minimum of 3 points, I would recommend an option to cover that as well.

Brian,
I've been looking for a way to notify Yahoo Fantasy's product development team but their seems like no real way to do so.
The most logical way to score Kickers is to divide the yardage of their field goals by ten. This way an 18 yard field goal is scored as 1.8 points, a 47 yarder is scored as 4.7, and a 63 yarder and 6.3.
There is no reason why FG's between 19 - 39 yards should all be equal 3 points. They already score Running Backs and Wide Receivers this way, why the kicker has not been switched to this model is besides me.
Also, being deducted points for missing a FG is controlled by your league commissioner. You can turn it on or off, so #1 is really not a suggestion that affects all of the Fantasy Football community.

all god ideas except #2. How many 60 yard field goals were kicked last year...last decade. That would turn it into a lottery. nobody attempts them til times out mostly in the first half. Totally agree withthe others though and was trying to think something myself. Good job.

Now that I have your attention with that ridiculous statement, I would like to say that kickers could be much more important than they are currently. The problem is that people give 3 points for chip shots that any kicker should make over 95% of the time, and only 5 points for kicks that most kickers can't make. That, and not subtracting for misses is what makes the kicker position pointless. But of course, that can mostly be done with the scoring settings already. Here are a couple additions I would like to make the kicker more relevant in fantasy football.
1. Adding a Kicker "No Miss" Bonus Score
A score for kickers if they miss no field goals under, say, 40 or 50 yards (it can't just be no misses at all, because the good kickers try to break records). This will make kickers more reliable and less random, because kickers with no opportunities will still get some points.2. 60+ yard kicks
The best kickers can make these. Shouldn't they be rewarded for it?3. Intervals of 5 yards instead of 10
The difference in difficulty between a 40 and 49 yard kick or a 50 and 59 yard kick is noteworthy here.I think these changes would make the kicker's actual skill matter. And don't act like there's no difference in any kickers, because their kicking strengths and accuracies at each range are much easier to predict than which offenses will stall the most in the red zone. Thank you for reading an entire rant about kickers.
