why cant I delete more than 100 unread emails at a time?

You can still bulk delete or Delete All. From your Inbox, just click on any checkbox and a new checkbox will appear at the top. From there you can Select All and then Delete All. It will delete more than 100, because next to pop up that appears, you can delete the whole folder. Hope this helps.
