I would like Yahoo Fantasy Football to add a commissioner-controlled scoring option for defensive pass interference (DPI) yardage.

My proposed rule is:

When defensive pass interference is called and the penalty is accepted, the penalty yardage would be credited to BOTH the quarterback and the intended receiver.

Example:

A quarterback throws toward a receiver and defensive pass interference is called 25 yards downfield.

The fantasy scoring would record:

QB: +25 passing yards
WR/TE: +25 receiving yards

The receiver would NOT receive a reception because the pass was not completed. The yardage would simply be added to the player’s receiving yardage.

For example, in a league using:

QB: 1 point per 25 passing yards
WR/TE: 1 point per 10 receiving yards

A 25-yard DPI penalty would produce:

QB: +1.0 fantasy point
WR/TE: +2.5 fantasy points

I believe this would be a great optional scoring feature because defensive pass interference is essentially a penalty that awards the offense significant yardage, yet the fantasy players responsible for the play currently receive no fantasy credit for that yardage.

I would like commissioners to be able to turn this feature on or off in League Settings.

Ideally, Yahoo could offer separate options:

□ Award DPI yards as passing yards to the QB
□ Award DPI yards as receiving yards to the targeted receiver
□ Award DPI yards to both QB and receiver

The scoring should be based on official NFL play-by-play data so that it happens automatically and does not require commissioner adjustments.

This would be an optional custom scoring rule and would give commissioners another way to make their leagues more realistic and interesting.
