Drafts - Extended draft pick times and slow drafts
This would allow commissioners to extend the time that is allotted to each team for each pick during the draft longer than the current maximum. Currently, the maximum draft pick time is 2 minutes.

Out of town guy needs to be in town guy to be at the draft.

I agree that allowing more time per pick is crucial. Similar to another post, we use 3 minutes per pick in the first several rounds due to it being a keeper league as well. There are certain owners that like to take the full 3 minutes and we would like to add the auto draft functionality for people that can only make part of the draft or can't make it at all. I'm not sure why you would create a maximum amount per pick. It should just be up to each league to set their times.

yikes how can you not speed it up? Or just write them down on paper and then enter them. I did one two minutes last year and some people were just never prepared and took an excessive amount of time and I made them all a minute. My first two this year, 12 players x 20 rounds at 1 minute, first one took 90 minutes, second took 45. I'm cutting to :45 going forward as most who took a while were just puttering around anyway.

Currently, draft rounds can only have a maximum length of two minutes. Why? There should be higher time limits available, and the ability to add different time limits to different rounds.
In a keeper league, and we like to give the first few rounds an extra minute or two, and then drop down to two minutes a round after that. Seems crazy that Yahoo drafting is so strict. Shouldn't be a very difficult change to implement.

In this case I would suggest you do an offline draft. That removes all time pressure.

Sure, everyone would love to do an offline draft in person with their friends. A pick is rarely made in 2 minutes as everyone is conversing and having a good time. For leagues where 1-2 (a minority of the league) players cannot attend the live draft there must be an option for more draft time. 2 minutes is simply not enough.

You can also do an off-line draft and then import the results into Yahoo! afterwards. That might be the best option to look into.

Send text messages and/or emails to the remote player so they can keep up with the picks.
Skype and similar products would be useful for situations like this.

We have 8 guys inour league and only 7 of us get together for the draft. So I usually enter the picks as we are drafting but I need to call the other guy and explain who has been taken and who is still available which takes a lot of time. It is impossible for the out of town guy to get his pick in if he is limited to 90 seconds. We take about 5 minutes on our picks and it would be nice to give the out of town guy that same option.
