How can we improve New Mail?

I used to login to my mail on my desktop then use my phone to authenticate. Now I'm forced to turn on notifications on my phone when I shouldn't have to. Now I get notifications on emails I'm getting that I don't care about. You should put it back the way it used to be without turning on notifications or give us the choice and not forced on us.
