Use up and down arrow keys for scrolling
While I like the new UI, its very annoying aspect is that up and down keyboard keys have been hijacked for "previous" and "next" message navigation. Those keys are normally used for scrolling long messages everywhere else. Without a mouse wheel, the only alternatives are crude PageUp/PageDown or trying to tap the narrow scrollbar.
Please assign some different keys for message navigation, such as Ctrl+Up/Down.

This has been completed. When you open the email in full message view, the up and down arrows will scroll through the email. When you are in preview pane, the up and down arrows will go to the next message. This is the exactly flow and behavior in the old version. Thanks for your patience!

Can't believe this isn't fixed yet, not even commented on.

I completely agree. Please restore the ability to scroll through the body of the email.

Change the arrows keys back to their previous functions!

Changing from side arrows for navigation was absolutely non-intuitive. It'd been that way for a decade or more. Now have to scroll pad to see the complete email document? This change to Up/ Down arrows makes more user activity to move mail to folders. Or read their mail.

I strongly agree that the up and down arrows should be for scrolling inside an email. That's how it has been in yahoo mail seemingly forever, and I shouldn't have to unlearn it. If need be, have something in settings that I can choose how I want the arrow keys to behave.
Perhaps a choice would be for the left and right arrows to be "previous and next". -

PLEASE bring back the ability to scroll within an email with up and down arrows on the keyboard! This is the single most important change I would like to see improved in the new yahoo email!

While reading an email, we should be able to scroll up or down within that email to read. Now if you hit the up or down arrow, it jumps to the next or previous emails -- HATE THIS CHANGE!! It's very annoying & unnecessary!!

I can't believe there's still no action on this. Again, this behavior runs contrary to the entire web. Someone change this back, it's not that hard.

I SEE FROM THE BELOW OCT 14, 2024 MESSAGE FROM A YAHOO ADMINISTRATOR, THAT YAHOO HAS BEEN AWARE OF THE LACK OF "SCROLL DOWN" FUNCTION FOR OVER ____FOUR_____ MONTHS!
AND THE BEST YOU CAN SAY IS "WE WILL SEE WHAT WE CAN DO"?
THAT'S______NOT_______ GOOD ENOUGH!
YOU NEED TO DO MORE.
BTW, YAHOO, I CAN USE THE "UP" AND "DOWN" ARROW KEYBOARD KEYS TO "SCROLL UP" AND "SCROLL DOWN" IN THIS FEEDBACK MESSAGE!!!
SO ____WHY_____ DON'T THE _____SAME_____ KEYS ALLOW ME TO "SCROLL UP" AND "SCROLL DOWN" IN AN EMAIL???

I HAVE THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM, WITH THE LACK OF "SCROLLING DOWN".
I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT YOU PAID SOMEONE TO CREATE THE NEW VERSION WITHOUT THIS FUNCTION.IT IS GOOD TO KNOW OTHER USERS DID TOO.
THIS WAS THE SUBJECT OF AN EMAIL I SENT TODAY, FEB 21, 2025 @11:30 AM EST (8:30 AM PST) TO YOUR CEO, MR JIM LANZONE.I TOLD YOUR CEO TO TERMINATE THE EMPLOYMENT OF EVERYONE WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE "NEW YAHOO EMAIL"

Losing the ability to scroll through an email that I want to read is terrible. Instead of scrolling, on my laptop which does not have a mouse wheel or touch screen, I rapidly flip through other messages. Up/down arrow keys need to navigate within an email.

I'm need to keep commenting here until there's a response. Using up/down to scroll within a page/message is universal web convention. It's unbelievably annoying that it's not respected in the new Mail. You have to change it.

Correct !!! Very bad idea to change the "next email, please" key from the right arrow to the up and down arrow, as this prohibits the use of the up and down arrow to look through the email you are looking at - you have to use both hands and put the arrow on the bar, and use only the bar to go up and down the email you are currently looking at. This is very, very annoying and inconvenient.
The up and down arrows should be available to look up and down at the email you are looking at. To go to the next email or the previous email, one should be able to use the right (next email) and left (previous email) key to go back and forth from email to email. Those right and left arrows are otherwise not used at all while you are viewing emails in your inbox and they were perfect for this function, which is how Yahoo had it before. Using the up and down keys to switch to previous and next emails, which is the new Yahoo system, makes no sense, and is inconvenient and annoying. -

Use Left and Right Arrow Keys to View Next and Previous Email. Save Up and Down Arrow Keys For Scrolling.

Scroll functionality of Classic Yahoo was very helpful. Now it is more difficult to read longer emails because you cannot use arrow keys to scroll down (you will go to next email). Very annoying for users who want quick and easy functionality, and I expect it is quite bad for older users. As a general note, a great deal of good functionality of Classic Yahoo Mail has been lost. I do not need any of the new features, but really miss the old ones. This is a really bad redesign, with less functionality, customizability, and absolutely useless new features (who needs AI to write an email? to go to a website already linked in the email?). Hope you figure out how to fix it for those of us who liked Classic before we move along. I will also note that there is no longer mail forwarding available unless you have a paid account, which is a very dirty trick. Please bring back customization for color and spacing, scroll functionality, and more - essentially the old classic mail (not basic).

Honestly I like having the option to use UP/DOWN to scroll through previous/next messages, but I do see the need to use UP/DOWN to view long messages. If this is altered I would concur for providing an alternate method of viewing previous/next messages (such as Ctrl+Up/Down as was suggested)... but please do not get rid of the ability to view previous/next messages mapped to a keyboard shortcut. Thank you!

I'm chiming in again here - please please please change this. Not being able to scroll with up/down is contrary to just about every other site on the web so it's extremely jarring.

Basic email was much easier to read. You can also hover over inbox and it would say how many total emails are in the inbox. In basic, you had up and down arrows to scroll through all your inbox emails. Now you have to go through page by page. Please put it back to the way it was; especially since it's tax season and I have to scroll down for tax info. Why did they have to change an email service that was working so well.
