Just took part in a Live Draft. After the draft, all of the draft picks appeared in the League Chat Box. It now takes forever to go back and find real chat messages. I contacted Yahoo Fantasy Support via Reddit. I was told that an individual can "hide" draft picks during the Draft, but it is not a league function. And if you hide draft picks, my guess is that you can't see who picked whom during the Live Draft. So I guess you can tell all the owners to be blind as to who picked whom - or you can turn your League Chat Box (the "moving forward" method of league Communication) into trash.

I had a 40-year IT career, and I have seen dozens of poorly executed system changes in terms of analysis, rollout, and customer communication/support. This Message Board removal easily ranks in the Top 5.

To Daniel Grossman's point a few comments below - I agree that the Message Board in a Public League is not necessary and could be a source of rude comments. However, in a Private League - particularly a Keeper League, the Message Boards are vital for all the reasons stated below. One additional note - replacing a Message Board with the League Chat is not going to reduce rude comments - just going to move the location of them. At least in a Private League, the Commissioner has the ability to censor an owner who habitually abuses the Message Board - and as Commissioner I have (admittedly rarely). The Chat Feature has no such oversight.

One other note, in responding to Daniel's comment below, I had to direct people to look for the original comment. That is because the discussion here is basically a Chat Box. If this were a true Message Board, I could have replied directly to Daniel. Keeper League owners typically have the reason to do the same thing - respond to one particular thread among many.

Another reminder - for those who are wondering why this topic is only #6 - Rankings are based upon answering the question "How important is this to you?". All the topics above it have been on here for 15 months, so that is why they've gathered so many votes. Now with all the flak Yahoo has gotten in just 2 weeks, Ranking shouldn't matter to them, but if it matters to you, be sure to vote "critical" and tell your colleagues to do likewise.

Also, the chat feature is indeed available on the desktop. It is in the bottom right of every fantasy page screen. It is an icon consisting of a white square containing a blue circle containing a "chat bubble". Just because it is there doesn't mean much - the chat function is still a miserable alternative to a Message Board - most notably due to the lack of threading.

I hate the removal of Message Boards as much as anyone here. But many are propagating incorrect information about the lack of the Chat feature on the desktop version. At the bottom right of every Fantasy page, there is a white box containing a blue circle containing a chat balloon. Click on that and you get the same interface that you find on the app version. Now I chide Yahoo for not pointing that out in the league notes - along with almost everything else they have done or not done with the implementation of this change. But in our complaints, we need to be accurate with them, so as not to give Yahoo an excuse not to listen to them.

The main problem with the removal of the Message Boards is the lack of threading. I also like the e-mail notification once a Message Board post occurs - though many owners ignore them (and even block them).

Lack of awareness of the Chat feature will be a temporary obstacle, but if Yahoo enhances it to truly functionally replace the Message Boards, that will soon take care of itself. What I feel is ridiculous is why Yahoo is trying to reinvent the wheel. Chats are meant for "chats" - they are not meant to be message boards. Two entirely different animals.

A note to those who are wondering why this topic is currently ranked only #9. I believe that posting a comment is not enough to raise the ranking. I believe one also must reply to the question "How important is this to you?". I would suggest voting "Critical".

I responded in detail in a prior comment - listing out what I consider the User Requirements for an enhanced Fantasy Chat. But I want to emphasize one point. My experience tells me that the value of Message Boards is about 70% from Registration Open until the end of the league's draft (whether that is live or "offline"). There is about another 20% value-add from draft completion date until Opening Day. Only about 10% of the Message Board value is in-season. The wording at the top of this feedback is "to help us make future improvements". Unless the target date for those future improvements is about March 1, 2023, any change you makes is relatively useless for 2023. I don't know your architecture, but I spent 25 years in IT, and to me that March 1 deadline seems daunting. Hopefully you have some engineering heroes who can drop everything they are doing and get this done. But if you can't make March 1, I think the only responsible action is to reinstate the Message Boards for 2023 - so that you can do a professional unrushed job of replacing their functionality for 2024 and beyond. This is espectially true since I bet you are going to make the same changes for Fantasy Football.

OK. You in Engineering seem to be fixated on this Fantasy Chat thing. In my opinion, here are the minimum requirements:

    1. Threading - All posts need to be able to be attached to one particular topic - and each topic should be readily accessible by all owners.

    2. Chat window needs to be expandible to at least a size as large as 1/4 of a laptop screen.

    3. Each post needs to be date/time stamped.

    4. An individual post needs to be able to span a minimum of 5000 characters.

    5. It should be easy to cut and paste to and from a chat post.

    6. This revised Fantasy Chat needs to be implemented no later than March 1, 2023. I think that my leagues could cope with that - but many leagues will clamor for an earlier date.

The end result will frankly look a lot like a Message Board. My response to that is "Duh". But if you want to engineer a substitute solution in a 3.5 week timeframe, be my guest. But that March 1 deadline is pretty much a "drop dead" date. Any later date would not be sufficient for most keeper/dynasty leagues. In my opinion, if you can't make that commitment, the only responsible thing to do is reinstate the existing Message Board for one more year - until the new Fantasy Chat features can be incorporated.

I see where historical Message Boards for 2015 thru 2022 have been restored. This is great news for dynasty/keeper leagues who had lost their rules/transactions from that time. There is still no Message Board for 2023. Is there any word on whether Yahoo is willing to reinstate for 2023?
