Playoffs - Customizable consolation bracket.
This feature will allow commissioners to do the following;
- Turn the consolation bracket on or off
- Change the number of teams the league has in the consolation bracket
- Customize the seeding and teams in the consolation bracket.
Currently, the consolation bracket is only available for 4 and 6 team playoff format, it is not able to be turned on and off, and does not allow for the commissioner to change the number of teams in the consolation bracket or customize the teams/seeding.

There's a way to stop bottom tier teams from deliberately tanking in the consolation bracket, or dropping stud players (since you cant auto-lock them if they are in the consolation), and just maybe get them to care about winning during consolation playoff weeks. Here's how I handle it.
Our teams draft the following year in reverse order of the previous years standings, excepting the consolation bracket, who will draft IN ORDER of final standing. It looks like this:
(I have a 10 team league, with a 6 team playoff, 4 team consolation)
Draft Pick - Previous Finish
1 - 7th place (the winner of the consolation)
2 - 8th
3 - 9th
4 - 10th
5 - 6th
6 - 5th
7 - 4th
8 - 3rd
9 - 2nd
10 - 1st (winner of the league) -

The consolation bracket should be optional.

I was about to post this when I saw your thread. I agree. It is dumb that we don't have the option to turn off non-playoff consolation games. It's not like last year the NY Giants and the Browns were playing each other in January. Give us the option to turn off consolation games.

The way my league gets around this is to do the draft order based on reverse order of regular season finish....taking the playoffs and consolation bracket out of the equation.

good idea. Gotta love the post by "anonymous" below (obviously a Yahoo employee) who just throws it back in the face of the person making the request to do it himself. So typical of Yahoo. Moron.

This is a good idea. I recently looked at my league history and it said the worst I had done was 5th. I know I've had some terrible teams, but I just happened to do well during the Consolation Bracket weeks, so now it says I was 5th that year.
Good idea to just give the option to turn it off.

Would like to give fantasy leagues a more NFL feel. Please and thank you.

The commish can bench all the players on teams 5 and down and lock them.

I run a 10 team league with a 4 team playoff. We would like to turn off the consolation bracket due to there not being any value playing for 5th place. Most teams don't try these weeks and since we draft in the opposite order of how we finish teams usually try to lose to improve there draft position for the next year. Just give us the option to turn it off, other leagues my want to keep it. What's so difficult about this???

This NEEDS to be a thing. It already is in 6-team playoff systems. Teams need the ability to play each other to determine final placement. My league needs it to determine the following year's draft order, allow the losing players to at least have a little fun (our league is a family league so we need another excuse to smack talk and chat across the country for two more weeks) as well as punish the last place team. Not sure why the functionality isn't currently allowed for 8-team playoffs, but it needs to be added.
Currently, the teams still accrue points individually, why not just give them a matchup and continue onward?

How is a Consolation bracket with 16 teams not a feature?? Such an oversight, it should have been there from the beginning. This is my 3rd year with Yahoo Fantasy, and the first two years we have Consolation brackets with our 12 team leagues, 6 in Championship, 6 in Consolation (6x6). You must update your software for 8x8 for 16 team leagues, immediately. It should have already been there. - TJ

Lose to advance in the consolation bracket is a great idea that our league does. It would be nice if Yahoo supported this. It is the best way to determine the greatest loser.

@Nick: You don't need Yahoo! to set up your consolation brackets; just set them up yourself and inform the bottom eight teams and let them play it out. Business as usual.

There has never been a consolation bracket for the 8 team option. You may be thinking of the 6x6 format.

We've had the same league for 3 years - 14 teams, with 8 teams making a 3-week playoff and the next 4 making a consolation bracket. Our settings haven't changed, and the bracket is gone now. Why? It's very important for our year-to-year management, and honestly, keeps it fun for everyone. Let's get that back.

Unfortunately no. The bracket formats have been available for the commish and all members of the league all season for review.

The 8 team option has never had a consolation bracket for the other 8 teams on Yahoo! You must have been playing on another site.
The greatest number of teams that make the playoffs is 12 and that is by using the 6x6 format.

We have a 10 team league with 6 making the playoffs and the remaining going into a consolation bracket. Unlike real football, we like to keep all the owners involved and having something to play for until our SuperBowl.
Please bring back the consolation bracket.
