Expanded Consolation Bracket, 2 Week Champions Bracket
This idea is for a 12 team league, but could work in 1 team leagues. I would like to have an option for a championship bracket with the top 4 teams and 2-week matchups along with a consolation bracket with 1-week matchups for the remaining 8 teams. In a 12 team league, the playoffs would last 4 weeks. The top 4 seeds in the championship bracket play out as usual with the winners of the 1st matchups playing for a championship in the last 2 weeks. Here’s where it gets tricky: I would want the losers of the first championship match up to drop down to the consolation where 2 teams would remain. While the finals play out the championship matchup, the consolation has a final 4 to play weekly contests over the next 2 weeks. The consolation would determine 3rd and 4th where every team that didn’t qualify has a shot to win.
