I think a good way to even the scales between a good NFL defence and a good 'fantasy' defence would be to allow the commissioner to asign a point total to wins for a defence. So if you have the Seahawks Def, and the Seahawks win, you would get ten points for that. It can be frustrating when the best NFL defences don't score as high as mediocre defences in fantasy because mediocre defences allow more scores, so they get more opportunities at return yards and td's. By giving a point value to wins, it raises a good NFL defence's fantasy value, as their team is more likely to win.

keep anything less than 30 yds at 3pts; then fractional per yards all the way up

Completely agreed...same for points allowed on defense...the ranges are limiting and useless, that's why I don't currently use K or DEF in my league.

I've been wanting this for YEARS, as has my entire league. Every other player gets fractional points, and there should be a distinction between a 30 yd FG vs a 39yd FG. In that example, they are nowhere near equal.

I hope this happens. If you have a fractional for regular players..there should be for kickers too.

I fully agree with this idea. it provides a more uniform scoring based on the length of the kick. prevents a 19yd FG from equaling a 39yd FG.

P K is right. The commissioner can change the values of field goals per ten yards... but I do like the fact of allowing fractional points. A 15 yard field goal should only be worth 1.5 points... not 2 or 3.

Disagree!!!
Too much luck involved in where a kicker is forced to attempt a field goal. Not the same as a rusher or receiver working for yards..

Since you already have faceoff wins and faceoff losses, please just add the category faceoff win percentage. This is the stat by which centers are generally evaluated in their performance in the faceoff circle.

I like this idea if you were thinking of doing fractional scoring for kickers (which is a pretty decent idea). Thanks Curtis.

Punters is a position that could easily be tracker. Net yards, inside 20, blocked punts. It adds a new wrinkle.

I believe that this becomes too many yardage categories.
If you do anything to it, make it like yardage points for passing, rushing & receiving --- something like each team starting with 6 points and having .01 point subtracted for each yard allowed, or starting with 40 points and having .1 point subtracted for each yard allowed.
Obviously, this plan also works for points scored against the DEF -- each team starting with 10 points and having .25 point subtracted for each point scored.
And it works well with FGs -- 3 points per FG plus .1 point for each yard of distance beyond 18 yards.
And it would cause no problems for the "Negative" leagues (the leagues where players lose points for scoring). Their DEFs could start with zero points and receive .01 point for each yard allowed, or .1 point for each yard allowed. And they could start with zero points and receive .1 point for point scored against them, or 1 point for each point scored against them, or whatever factor the Commish decides to put into the settings.
I expect that a computer can more efficiently crank out scores using a simple equation such as these than go through a series of if-then statements while awarding points, and the fractional points greatly reduce the probablility of a tie in a head-to-head match. -

Head Coaches could be scored on Wins/Losses/Successful Challenges, etc.
Punters: Net yards/Inside the 20/Punt Average
Home Field: When I create the schedule at the beginning of the year, I could set home teams up with a 5 point advantage.
These are simple to implement, and give us people that aren't interested in boring/vanilla options. ESPN does this. -

They already have most of this feature (except the fractional points). Under Scoring and Settings the commissioner can change scoring by range so a 19 yarder isn't the same as a 60 yarder.

Why would this make any sense at all. There is no place in football that such scoring takes place. Fantasy football is based on the real game with a little incentive in certain areas. A kicker using the mentioned method would make poor teams kicker a lot better than a good teams kicker. Just not realistic.

Totally agree. I had this same thought last season.

CBSsports fantasy by default has a separate scoring category for every 50 yards the defense allows. It also allows you to modify the ranges and add more ranges to the category.
I would be happy with just a separate scoring for every 50 yards starting at 100. So categories would be
1) < 100
2) 100-149
3) 150-199
4) 200-249
5) 250-299
6) 300-349
7) 350-399
8) 400-449
9) 450-499
10) 500+ -

that's an interesting idea...i like it except it does kind of reward a team for not succeeding so then you consider kickers from lesser teams which is opposite of 'normal' drafting...having it as an option like you said would be good...generally speaking i like the fantrax.com leagues best...yahoo has more bells and whistles though...like rafi says there should be a base of 3 points plus the tenths
just noticed that this is a MIKE thread lol

@Mike K, I'm aware of the current point system in assigning stagnant point values to yard ranges, but it still doesn't account for a kicker hitting a FG of 60 yards plus. Plus we can all agree there is a huge difference between a kicker hitting a 50 yard field goal and a 59 yarder. The only way to differentiate these two feats is by awarding a tenth of a point for each additional yard.
