Differentiation Between Unread and Read Emails
It is much harder to differentiate between unread and read email. The background color for read emails should be a higher contrast tot he unread ones.

In the READ mail, please remove the grey background color. It is distracting, and I ended up deleting read emails. Read Emails can just be just UNBOLD (I am not sure what exact technical term is) but UNREAD mails are BOLD. Let the Read emails just be UNBOLD (normal) without the grey color. Go back to the older design for READ MAIL

How can this problem have been the works since Oct. 1, 2024, and if has NOT been taken care of! I agree with almost everybody in this thread that you can't tell what has been read or not read. A DARK FONT FOR UNREAD. A LIGHT FONT UNREAD AND AN ARROW OR MARK WHAT WAS RELIED TOO.

The new email experience is very confusing. It is really hard to tell what emails are new and what emails are already read. Please try to revise this user experience so it's easier. I think you made the email experience harder.

They grey highlighted ones should be the new ones as in the old version. It is too confusing to have it the opposite colors. Plus without the blue dot, its really not easy to see the new emails.

Impossible to tell what messages are read and which are unread. Make them different again, please. Also it no longer says how many emails are unread, and I had to look up how to select all, which is such a basic function. That should be super easy and intuitive to find. This is really a terrible update.

Under appearances: Dark mode- you can not tell which email has been read. It will be nice for the the unread emails to be more bolder so it will be more easier to differentiate which you had read with the ones you haven't.

There needs to be a color distinction between "read", "unread" and "currently reading" emails on the left hand side. It's too confusing having the "read" and "currently reading" as the same color.

@Beth Horn, that's what I do, but open a separate tabs for Basic and new mail so I can flip between them. I have to use basic to be able to see read v. unread and to delete messages in SPAM folder by simply pressing ENTER key after the delete button. The new one lacks this delete capability and one has to do extra mouse clicks to delete messages in SPAM folder. Removing features is not an upgrade, but downgrade!

Wait. My previous critical comments were not quite accurate. The more I use the new format, the more I hate it. It's too big and clunky with too many distracting colors and its hard to read and it slows the reading's progress!!!! And it's harder to differentiate between read and unread emails because the fonts seem similar and not clearly bolded like the previous version. How could Yahoo possibly think making an email format LESS efficient is a good thing. The user is not on this site to shop or do some casual reading - rather, they want to check emails to get work done quickly and efficiently.

This needs to be flipped. Grey background looks like they are unread not read. And...needs more contrast. The unread emails should jump out & be easy to find. Now they just look like "ads" that are mixed in.
I find myself constantly flipping back to basic Yahoo just so I can see what's read/unread in my inbox. -

gray background makes viewing difficult for visually impaired. Need high contrast like the old version. Bring back high contrast.

What's with the banding in Inbox? I think it's meant to represent read and unread email. But that's what bold and not bold are for. Like same as every other email client. Lose the banding please, or give option to disable it.

Giving me the option in "settings" to change the differentiating visual of "read" and "not read" email would be ideal.
I can choose the background highlight color, or if I want the subject BOLD - what works for me may not work for others, so giving me choices is best.
Currently, the dark grey vs. light grey is NOT useful -

I agree with others. The gray background for messages that are read should be changed. It does not look good.

How do you change a message from Read to Unread?
My husband and I share our email, and we frequently "Mark as Unread" to make sure our spouse sees the message.

As of today, I switched to Basic Mail. You might consider the same.
Click the three dots (low left) - Settings - Switch To basic Mail.
Yes it does not have all the advanced functions but at least it's got those BASIC ones.
Yes it does not have any graphic but at least it's not all grey with gmail rounded edges.
I am desktop user and I don't need new kids to redesign all my favoriet websites to adapt mobile phone look. I'm tired of all their experiments.
I stay with Yahoo Basic Mail. -

Please go back to the bold/not bold method of seeing which emails have been read. This new version of beiged out lines is impossible. I gave it time for my brain to adapt and it is not working. I am working less efficiently because of it. And the stupid AI summaries of a 2 sentence email is just icing on the annoying cake. This was a terrible decision. Can we go back to the bold for unread emails. Please!!!

Need to make unread emails more bold. You can barely tell what's been read or unread. Make it more prominent! Meanwhile, going back to Basic version.
