i'm not really a fan of adding such subjective stats to the list, however there is no excuse why there can't be a separate goal, assists, and points category for defensman. As it is right now, in all the scoring formats, defenseman are pretty much irrelevant.

I agree.
In my yearly league we give 3 bonus for goalie assist and 4 for goalie goals.
It's rare but we like having it.

This should only apply to FGs over 30 yards. 3 pts is still the minimum score for a FG. It's so simple and was suggested to Yahoo for at least 4 years. Why does it take so long to get this done?

I would also like to add shoot out goals as an optional category to our pool. We recently decided to switch over from another stat website to yahoo. Can you quickly make this change for our pool?

this is a horrible idea. punting is terrible. i'd sooner see kickers removed than add punters.

for defensive players CBs are not justified. add catches allowed, targets against for every ___ targets, reception yards allowed, and pass rushers credit QB hits/hurries per ____ seconds, goal line stops, game winning stops per player or team defensive... and finally penalty yards... and NO LIMIT TO STAT CATEGORIES please. Trying to get leagues that have actual value of players.

in addition to punting, i would add inside 20, inside 10, hang time 3.5+ seconds, successful onside kicks, 50/60/70 yard punts, touch backs. add 60+yard FG, game winning field goal, (or losing) points for being on a winning team (or losing) for player or head coach

add OL and with categories sacks allowed, tackle 4 loss allowed, pancakes, QB hurries pre 4 seconds, QB hits allowed pre 4 seconds, Passing yards per every 100 offensive yards, rushing yards per every 100 yards, points for certain amount of offensive points scored. Could be individual OL or team OL format.

I totally agree with this. In my league, we want to make it start at 40 yards. A 40 yard FG should not be worth the same as a 49 yard FG. With kickers making 60 yard FGs more and more, it would be nice to get rewarded for having a kicker with a big leg.

Dear Klondike, Thanks for noticing my comment back in Feb.
Please rest assured that I have no need for another silly medal. -

I went another 3 months w/o commenting on this dumb idea.
So, I think I should receive another medal. -

A sliding scale would be awesome.
My Formula:
For misses it could be -3 for 17 yards, -0 for 77+ yards, and for the 60 yards in between it could change by .05 points for every yard beyond 17.
For makes it could be +3 for 17 yards, +6 for 77+yards, and for the 60 yards in between it could again change by .05 points for every yard beyond 17.
They could have inputs for the range and the point values at each end and their computer could do the rest.

I don't give a flying f**k about decimal scoring for FGs. All I want is Yahoo to fix the broken pore draft ranking system. My league now wants to move to another site because of it. We are giving Yahoo until the end of the month to get this mess fixed.

i TOTALLY agree!! they should have been fractional to begin with!! why make a stupid cut off on the points????? ive been making 50+ FGs 6 points in our league to account for this ridiculous oversite the past couple of years....all of the other yards are fractional EXCEPT the FG yardage...lol...der der der!!

Every yard is .1 points. So a 49 yard field goal is worth 4.9 points and a 50 is worth 5 points. Under the current scoring system that 1 yard difference is a whole point, not .1 of a point. ESPN figured this out years ago. Don't be slow to the game yahoo, this is an easy fix.

Giving a point for a first down sounds good at first glance. However, I think the result would actually be negative. PPR is better. Catching a pass in-bounds is a reception. That's an important accomplishment, especially when the pass is poorly thrown or the coverage is tight.
I agree with the statement that players who gain nine yards on first and ten do more for their teams than players who gain two yards on second and one. -

I think this would be a great option, especially if there is some kind of minimum score (3?) and/or a way to do points for the "make" separate from points for the distance.

I've been in leagues like this before and I'm kinda torn on the stat. On one hand, PIMs in real-life hockey are actually a detriment to the team whose player takes a penalty, which I agree should make them a punishment rather than a reward in fantasy hockey as it is in real hockey. However, everybody in the NHL takes penalties (even Ryan O'Rielly) and it does not seem fair for EVERY player in the NHL to be punished on a weekly basis. As well, using PIMs as a cumulative "positive" category opens the player pool up by allowing many more players to have some type of quantitative value that would either be greatly diminished or non-existent if the PIM were to be a negative stat.
A change like this would DRASTICALLY alter the landscape of Yahoo! Fantasy Hockey, though. It would change the value of nearly every player in the league and some players' value would be dramatically reduced (Corey Perry comes to mind immediately, as does Hartnell). Players like O'Rielly and St. Louis would actually see their value increase exponentially, whereas Hartnell and Phaneuf would lose massive value because they often take a ton of PIMs. Also, you would lose the need for a "specialty" player in the PIM category (for instance, one guy in my league drafted Sean Avery every single season for his PIMs alone and this happens quite often for at least one or two teams drafting an NHL tough guy for the category domination).
Personally, when I came from ESPN (who used PIMs as a negative) to Yahoo! it was a major culture shock for me and I was not very happy. However, over the years I am very pleased with PIMs being a "positive" category because it adds another dimension to the stats and gives value to players outside of the pure offensive guys. I don't think it's a good idea having negative categories in fantasy sports because quite frankly, how many fantasy owners want to be PUNISHED in a fake sport? It is a game afterall and we're here to score points, not lose them.
Obviously, the +/- stat comes to mind, but the fundamental difference there is that it's not STRICTLY a punishment...players have the ability to contribute in a positive manner. I would be hesitant to add any negative-only stat categories because it would probably be more frustrating than exciting or fair...imagine being that Owner who LOSES because Hartnell took a 2-minute tripping minor by taking down Crosby on a breakaway. You'd be more frustrated by LOSING points on the last day than by your opponent GAINING points to beat you in the Championship...
In my opinion, if your League is unsatisfied with the way PIMs are a reward rather than punishment, I would suggest your League remove it from the weekly statistical categories entirely. If something is a negative, then it shouldn't be included...that would at least solve your issue of losing the Championship on the last day because the opponent received a major penalty.

I agree, just like the goalie loss category is a negative stat, PIM should be as well

Hat tricks and also OVERTIME game winning goals need to be added as categories for head to head, and also as a stat for points leagues. Having just "game winning goals" isn't good because if the final score is 6-2, why give the guy that scored the 3rd goal extra points? Only OVERTIME winning goals are true "game winning goals"
