Hello Yahoo Fantasy team,
I’d like to propose a new fantasy football format that could be a fun addition to Yahoo Fantasy: One-and-Done Fantasy Football.
The concept is simple: instead of drafting a roster, each owner selects a new starting lineup every week. Once an owner uses a player, that player cannot be used again by that owner for the remainder of the season.
Proposed rules and features
- Weekly lineup: 1 QB, 2 RBs, 2 WRs, 1 kicker, and 1 team defense.
- No draft: Owners select a new lineup each week from eligible NFL players.
- Automatic player tracking: Yahoo tracks every player’s usage for each owner and prevents that owner from selecting the same player again.
- Independent player availability: The restriction applies separately to each team. Opponents can use the same player in the same week or in different weeks. For example, both opponents could start Josh Allen against each other.
- Standard scoring: Use familiar fantasy football scoring rules, with customizable scoring settings.
- Head-to-head competition: Owners play a different opponent each week during the regular season.
- Automatic playoffs: Playoffs take place during the NFL regular season, with the number of playoff teams and byes determined by league size. A possible format is regular-season play through Week 14, followed by playoffs in Weeks 15–17.
- Fully automated management: Yahoo handles lineup validation, player eligibility, scoring, standings, playoff seeding, and matchups.
Why this would be a compelling format
This game would add a new strategic dimension to fantasy football. Owners must decide when to use elite players, manage bye weeks and injuries, and preserve enough talent for the playoffs. Every selection has a long-term consequence because a player can only be used once per owner per season.
I believe this could appeal to existing Yahoo Fantasy users looking for a fresh alternative to traditional redraft, keeper, and dynasty leagues. It could be offered as a new league format alongside the existing options.
I would appreciate your consideration of this idea and hope Yahoo Fantasy might explore developing it.
Thank you!
