Schedule/Scoring Formats - 'Doubleheaders vs league score median'.
Each week, the median fantasy points of all teams in the league is calculated by taking the middle number in a sorted list of scores of each team. Each team would get a win if they beat the league median and a loss if they lose to it.

This feature is now available with Yahoo Fantasy Commissioner Plus.

I would recommend you get the second win playing against the "median score" or simply give the second win to the top half of the team scores each week.
I have played in leagues, as I'm sure everyone has, where 1 or 2 teams go completely AWOL around week 5 or so, or sooner. Its not unrealistic, given bye week holes and injuries, for such a team to score only 35-50 pts in a standard scoring league.
That dramatically affects the "average score" for a week, especially if there's more than one of these derelict teams. Its like grading on a very easy curve in school.
If 9 out of 12 teams top this skewed average score, then basically every team still competing is getting the extra win. This defeats the purpose because the "lucky schedule wins" then regain their effect on the standings, which is counter to the whole point of adding a second win. -

YES!!! Many sites offer this option, and I have counted at least 5 different submissions asking to add the option to play against more than 1 team each week. Some people like it, some don't, JUST OFFER IT AS AN OPTION!!

for a 12 team league i've seen it broken into 3 tiers. You get a Win for winning your H2H weekly match-up but then the top 4 scoring teams receive an additional 2 "wins" next 4 teams receive 1 additional win and bottom 4 scoring teams receive 0.
Breaks up additional "wins" a little smoother.

Love this idea. I Do this on the side myself because it is a better representation of overall team strength then record.

There needs to be an option for head to head to incorporate victory points. Why can't we have an option where the top half of league gets a win/point for having scored in top half of total scored points. This will help alleviate issues with bad luck. This idea is 5 years old and never seems to get initiated. A team still gets a win if it beats it opponent but can also get a loss if they score in bottom half.
Example
Team 1 scores 100 points vs team 2 99. If those were top scoring team in league team 1 would get 2 wins and team 2 would be 1-1 for the week. -

This is very interesting, and I would play in a league like this. Good Idea!! Does any other FFL platform offer this?

Yahoo! needs to do something about this. We are moving to a Hybrid scoring model. There are 12 points available each week for our 12 team league. You get 1 point for winning your head-to-head matchup and 1 point for being in the top half (top 6) of scores posted that week. This keeps the fun of head-to-head matchups while eliminating the luck aspect. All Yahoo! has to do to support this is allow the commissioner to customize the team rankings each week.

The primary benefit of this change hasn't been mentioned.
Under this system, we would no longer have any problem with leagues containing an odd number of teams. -

I agree with the suggestion.
My only comment is that when Anonymous wrote,
"For example, in a 10-team league, Team A will have 9 games. And could go 7-2, 5-4, 1-9 for W/L in the week."
I think that he meant,
"For example, in a 10-team league, Team A will have 9 games. And could go 7-2, 5-4, 1-8, or 0-9 for W/L in the week."

What a BRILLIANT idea! This should totally be an option, it would take all the complaining out of the argument "everybody I played had their best week against me!)... With this idea, you play everybody every week, GOLD.
....I would like to note that I understand I can set my league up to be points based over record based. The idea suggested would still be FUN!

I'm still begging for the option of each team playing every other team. I'm doing it either way next year. But currently I'm going to have to choose total points. Then track it each week as the commish for my league. It would be a lot better if it were built in! I've even noticed that you guys keep track of this stat if you look at your week to week recaps. Now we just need to make a league be decided on that stat!

I agree with Jim. Some other ideas have been posted
which would solve this problem more elegantly. -

I will add that most sites that offer this allow you to pick how many opponents you play each week. Sometimes it's everyone "All-Play", or you can pick to play 3 opponents in a week instead of 1... This may be a lot harder to add, so I'm totally alright with taking the easy route and just doing an all against all league (that's what my entire league has voted for).

This is random, but can we change the title of this request? I feel it would get more attention if it weren't just "head to head matchups suck". Instead change it to something like "All-Play, PowerPoints, Cross Country scoring requested". Anything that would describe what the actual request is instead of what looks to be a complaint about head to head. That way hopefully more people will click on it and learn what it's about... I think more would be interested if they were aware that other sites offer something like this.

My league will be moving to another site if this type of system is not added. In my opinion, it's the best scoring system unless it's a keeper/dynasty league. Any casual league with friends, this is the way to go. Power Points, Cross Country, All-Play... Call it whatever you want, Yahoo needs it!

So, let's say the scores by the twelve teams in your league one week are: 87, 82, 78, 74, 61, 38, 37, 35, 33, 32, 29, and 26.
I think it would be stupid (with a great abundance of stupidity) to give the sixth-best score (38) credit for a win. -

The "Power Points" plan that Wayne suggested appears to be a cleaner, more efficient method than Cross-Country ranking.
The problem, I fear, is that too many players are totally bought into the concept of Won-Loss rankings.
So, I expect that changing to Cross-Country ranking should be done first, then move on to Power Points a couple of years later. -

I think Scott Lee answered this idea the best (below) back in Sept.
Just don't play head-to-head.
Leagues can already use total points scored during the season as their ranking method.
That system is certainly the most fair.
But, failing that, the idea of having each team "play" each team every week would still be a major improvement over "playing" some league average result each week.
